Eigenfrequencies of tuning-forks

Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering, 1972
Abstract The problem to find the natural frequencies and the appropriate modes of vibration of tuning-forks of quite general geometry is investigated. The tuning-fork is first discretized, and then the method of transfer matrices is applied. Numerical results are presented for three test examples to illustrate the accuracy of the method.

Magnetic field and rotational eigenfrequencies

Physics of the Earth and Planetary Interiors, 1999
Abstract The theory of the rotation of the fluid core is modified in order to take into account the magnetic field within the core. Because of the conductivity of the lower mantle, there is a frictional magnetic torque which appears at the core–mantle boundary (CMB); the magnitude of this torque depends on the conductivity profile within the mantle ...

Eigenfrequency analysis of bridges using a smartphone and a novel low-cost accelerometer prototype

open access: yesFrontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering
The final authenticated version is available online at https://doi.org/10.1007/s11709-024-1055-5.Researchers are paying increasing attention to the development of low-cost and microcontroller-based accelerometers, in order to make structural health ...

ERROR ESTIMATION OF EIGENFREQUENCIES FOR ELASTICITY AND SHELL PROBLEMS

Mathematical Models and Methods in Applied Sciences, 2003
In this paper, a method for deriving computable estimates of the approximation error in eigenvalues or eigenfrequencies of three-dimensional linear elasticity or shell problems is presented. The analysis for the error estimator follows the general approach of goal-oriented error estimation for which the error is estimated in so-called quantities of ...

Approximate Evaluation of Eigenfrequencies

2013
Approximate evaluation of rotors flexural eigenfrequencies is investigated in Chap. 1. However, the formulation is similar for torsional vibrations of shafts or even vibrations of elastic systems in general. The Dunkerley's rule for the determination of lowest eigenfrequency of a lumped-mass, multi-degree-of-freedom elastic shaft is applied along with ...

On toroidal mode eigenfrequencies

Planetary and Space Science, 1969
Abstract The eigenfrequencies of the toroidal magnetohydrodynamic mode (guided mode) have been shown to be spatially dependent and the mathematical description inconsistent under some circumstances by Radoski and McClay. Hruska has indicated that use of non-perfectly conducting boundary conditions will remove the inconsistency and lead to ...

Eigenfrequencies in Gyrotropic—Metallic Cavities

IEEE Microwave and Wireless Components Letters, 2018
In this letter, the eigenfrequencies of a spherical metallic cavity filled with an anisotropic medium are calculated. The loading of the cavity can be gyrotropic (gyroelectric and gyromagnetic), or gyrotropic with the presence of a spherical perfect electric conducting core. We employ a coupled-field surface-volume integral equation (CFSVIE) method, in

Distribution of eigenfrequencies for vibrating plates

The European Physical Journal B, 2000
Acoustic spectra of free plates with a chaotic billiard shape have been measured, and all resonance frequencies in the range 0-500 kHz have been identified. The spectral fluctuations are analyzed and compared to predictions of the Gaussian Orthogonal Ensemble (GOE) of random matrices.

Variational methods for complex eigenfrequencies

Journal of Physics A: Mathematical and General, 1980
Variational expressions have been developed for the complex normal-mode frequencies occurring in a variety of physical systems including laboratory and solar plasmas as well as cosmic space.

Convergence properties of eigenfrequencies in RUS

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America
An in-depth exploration of the asymptotic behavior of resonant frequencies in Resonant Ultrasound Spectroscopy (RUS), a non-destructive method for material property evaluation, is presented in this work. This work delves into the asymptotic analysis using Legendre polynomials for cuboid samples and examines the impact of increasing elements on ...
