Mitogenicity of the earthworm's (eisenia foetida) insulin-like proteins

1. Biologically active glycolipoprotein complex (G-90), isolated from whole earthworm tissue extract (Eisenia foetida), was separated into seven fractions by gel-filtration. 2. It has been shown by radioimmunoassay that each of the fractions, except the lightest one, is cross-reactive with porcine anti-insulin antibodies.

Anoplophrya foetidae n. sp. an astomatous ciliate from Eisenia foetida var. foetida (Savigny, 1826)

Summary A ciliate of the genus Anoplophrya Stein 1860 is described. This ciliate was found in the middle part of the gut of the earthworm Eisenia foetida var. foetida ( Savigny , 1826), and it has been studied in living conditions and under impregnation using the pyridinated silver method of Fernandez-Galiano (1976).

Das Phanomen der hyperakuten Transplantat-Abstossung (innerhalb von 24 h) wurde bei Invertebraten untersucht. Diese rasche Abstossungsreaktion wird signifikant haufiger bei Allo- oder Xenoals bei Autotransplantationen beobachtet. Dies spricht fur das Vorliegen einer Inkompatibilitatsreaktion.

In the nervous system of the earthworm Eisenia foetida, we have previously found thyroglobulin-like immunoreactive neurons. In the present study iodination activity was investigated by injecting worms or incubating them in vivo with radioiodine; animals treated with methimazole (MMI), an inhibitor of peroxidase-catalyzed iodination, served as controls.

Fibrinolytic and anticoagulative activities from the earthworm Eisenia foetida

Biologically active glycolipoprotein complex (G-90) isolated from whole earthworm tissue extract shows anticoagulative and fibrinolytic activities. We isolated two tyrosine like serine peptidases with molecular masses of 34 kDa (P I) and 23 kDa (P II), respectively. P I peptidase is autocatalytically degraded to P II.
