ED-71 is a new vitamin D receptor ligand, bearing a hydroxypropoxy substituent at the 2β-position of 1α, 25 (OH) (2)D(3). In ovariectomized rats, ED-71 increased vertebral bone mass and bone strength by inhibiting bone resorption and maintaining bone formation.

Eldecalcitol normalizes bone turnover markers regardless of their pre-treatment levels
Current Medical Research and Opinion, 2012Three-year treatment with eldecalcitol has been shown to improve lumbar and total hip bone mineral density (BMD), decrease bone turnover markers, and lower the incidences of vertebral and wrist fractures in patients with osteoporosis more than with treatment with alfacalcidol under vitamin D repletion. The purpose of this study was to determine whether

D-Hormone Derivatives for the Treatment of Osteoporosis: From Alfacalcidol to Eldecalcitol
Mini-Reviews in Medicinal Chemistry, 2009Many readers may have only a vague idea about vitamin D. This is made complicated, in part, because it is also expressed with suffixes such as vitamin D(2) or vitamin D(3). Otherwise the prefix of "active" is also occasionally used. Vitamin D is often referred to as an important nutrient for calcium intake, especially for growing children and the ...

Osteoporosis Treatment by a New Active Vitamin D3 Compound, Eldecalcitol, in Japan
Current Osteoporosis Reports, 2012Although vitamin D is used mainly as a nutritional supplement in osteoporosis treatment, its active form, 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D [1,25(OH)(2)D], has an effect to maintain bone remodeling balance as well. Eldecalcitol is an analog of 1,25(OH) (2)D(3) with stronger effects than its native form in improving bone remodeling balance and increasing bone ...
