Obesity alters the fitness of peritumoral adipose tissue, exacerbating tumor invasiveness in renal cancer through the induction of ADAM12 and CYP1B1

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumor microenvironment drives cancer formation and progression. We analyzed the role of human cancer‐associated adipocytes from patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC) stratified as lean, overweight, or obese. RNA‐seq demonstrated that, among the most altered genes involved in the tumor–stroma crosstalk, are ADAM12 and CYP1B1, which were proven to be ...

Cultural Transmission, Property Rights, and Treatment of the Elderly [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
We examine how production and the development of property rights interact with cultural transmission to shape the treatment of the elderly across societies. Our model posits that respect for the elderly arises endogenously: parents invest in cultivating cultural values in their children, who later reciprocate in proportion to this investment.

Impact of molecular diagnostics and targeted cancer therapy on patient outcomes (MODIFY): a retrospective study of the implementation of precision oncology

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The authors conducted a retrospective study of 94 patients with advanced cancer who underwent next‐generation sequencing (NGS) gene panel analysis and received targeted treatments when applicable. Results further support evidence indicating that molecular profiling provides clinical benefit.

Welzijn.AI: Developing Responsible Conversational AI for Elderly Care through Stakeholder Involvement [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
We present Welzijn.AI as new digital solution for monitoring (mental) well-being in elderly populations, and illustrate how development of systems like Welzijn.AI can align with guidelines on responsible AI development. Three evaluations with different stakeholders were designed to disclose new perspectives on the strengths, weaknesses, design ...

Driving by the Elderly and their Awareness of their Driving Difficulties (Hebrew) [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
In the past twenty years the number of elderly drivers has increased for two reasons. one is the higher proportion of elderly in the population, and the other is the rise in the share of the elderly who drive. This paper examines the features of their driving and the level of their awareness of problems relating to it, by analysis preference survey ...

Robust acute myeloid leukemia engraftment in humanized scaffolds using injectable biomaterials and intravenous xenotransplantation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Patient‐derived xenografts (PDXs) can be improved by implantation of a humanized niche. We tested different biomaterials and approaches, and demonstrate that the combination of an injectable biomaterial for scaffold creation plus an intravenous route for acute myeloid leukemia (AML) xenotransplantation provide the most convenient and robust approach to
