Modelling and simulation strategy for parametric transient electromagnetic simulations

International Journal of Modelling, Identification and Control, 2013
This paper presents an efficient two-step reduction strategy for parametric transient electromagnetic simulations. The first step involves the conversion of a large system of parametrised differential algebraic equations (PDAEs), obtained after finite element (FE) discretisation into a significantly smaller system of ordinary differential equations ...

A model for simulating corona in the electromagnetic transients on transmission lines

Computers & Electrical Engineering, 2003
Abstract This paper presents a new model for analyzing the electromagnetic transients along transmission lines, which can be totally or partially under corona. Time-domain modeling techniques have been used for representing the line itself by dividing its entire length into an adequate number of identical sections.

Evaluation of STATCOM model for electromagnetic and electromechanical transients

2018 Simposio Brasileiro de Sistemas Eletricos (SBSE), 2018
STATCOM is a FACTS (Flexible AC Transmission Systems) device used for improving power system performance. Among other technologies, the STATCOM can be based on the utilization of modular multilevel converters (MMC), which are voltage source converters (VSC), using IGBT instead of thyristor, providing a robust reactive power support for the system. This

Parametric modeling of transient electromagnetic systems

Radio Science, 1979
The modeling of a transient electromagnetic system as a single‐input, single‐output, linear, causal process is considered. Two canonical forms are discussed; one for impulse function input and the other for more general input. Expressions are derived for errors in the estimation of the model parameters caused by errors in the process data.

Modeling of a buried conductor for an electromagnetic transient simulation

IEEJ Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Engineering, 2006
AbstractThe paper has proposed a distributed‐line model of a buried bare conductor with horizontal and vertical configuration by assuming an artificial insulator outside of the bare conductor so that the characteristic impedance and the propagation velocity of the buried conductor is evaluated as an insulated conductor (cable) by the cable constants ...

A Fast Electromagnetic Transient Modeling for Modular Multilevel Converter

2024 IEEE 10th International Power Electronics and Motion Control Conference (IPEMC2024-ECCE Asia)
When the number of sub-modules (SMs) in modular multilevel converter (MMC) is large, the simulation speed usually slows down significantly. In this paper, we propose a fast electromagnetic transient (EMT) modeling to solve this problem.

Modelling of circuit breakers in the Electromagnetic Transients Program

IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 1988
The recent publication of experimental and theoretical results from verified arc models has made possible the implementation and testing of a dynamic circuit-breaker model using the Electromagnetic Transients Program (EMTP). An estimator was developed to obtain model parameters from test data. Results obtained with the estimator are given, and its data

Detection of Water-Filled Mining Goaf Using Mining Transient Electromagnetic Method

IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics, 2020
Water-filled mining goaves are extremely prone to water inrush accidents in coal mines, and the transient electromagnetic method (TEM) is a good geophysical method for detecting water-rich areas.

Investigation of the use of electromagnetic transient models for transient stability simulation

6th International Conference on Advances in Power System Control, Operation and Management. Proceedings. APSCOM 2003, 2003
This paper presents the advancement in enhancing the transient stability simulation with detailed device level modeling of power electronic devices such as FACTS and HVDC. An electromagnetic transient (EMT) model of an SVC has been built and incorporated into a conventional transient stability (TS) program.
