Electron holography of catalysts

Proceedings, annual meeting, Electron Microscopy Society of America, 1995
The active phase in heterogeneous catalysts consists of nanometer-sized metal or oxide particles dispersed within the tortuous pore structure of a high surface area matrix. Such catalysts are extensively used for controlling emissions from automobile exhausts or in industrial processes such as the refining of crude oil to produce gasoline.

Focus Variation Electron Holography

1999
The idea of improving the resolution in HRTEM from a focal series of HRTEM images of weakly scattering objects by computer-aided compensation of the lens aberrations for the reconstruction of the complex wave function information at the level of the specimen is already quite old.226,383,393 More recently, a more advanced method for wave function ...

Performance limits of electron holography

Ultramicroscopy, 2008
Transmission electron microscopy is wave optics. The object exit wave contains the full object information. However, in the usual intensity images, recorded either in real space or in Fourier space, the phases are missing. In many applications at medium and at high resolution, electron holography has shown its unique ability of solving the "missing ...

Quantitative Electron Holography

1999
Electron holography is necessarily a two-step process. First, the object and reference waves must be coherently superimposed in recording the electron hologram. Second, reconstruction of the hologram is required in order to extract the desired phase and/or amplitude of the electron wave which has passed through the object.

Artefacts in electron holography

Ultramicroscopy, 1996
Abstract In off-axis electron holography artefacts may arise specific to the method. In particular at high resolution they must be taken into account to obtain reliable results after correction of aberrations. In the following we describe some artefacts which we have found to be most essential so far.

Applications of electron holography

Reviews of Modern Physics, 1987
The development of a coherent field-emission electron beam has facilitated practical applications of electron holography. This paper reviews this field of growing importance, making special reference to the application of electron holography to current technological problems.

Electron Holography in Microelectronics

Science, 2002
PHYSICS During the fabrication of microelectronic devices, the ion implantation and annealing processes lead to the diffusion of the dopant atoms. Although secondary ion mass spectrometry and detailed process simulations have been used to characterize and monitor the depth of the dopant distribution in the devices, little is known about the lateral ...

Inelastic electron holography

Ultramicroscopy, 2000
Coherence of inelastically scattered electrons was investigated by means of biprism interference experiments performed in a transmission electron microscope equipped with a highly coherent field emission gun and an imaging filter. The experimental results show that within the wave inelastically scattered at aluminium plasmons there is in fact an area ...

Snapshot Electron Holography

Science, 2011
Holographic imaging using laser light is a powerful technique that can provide a three-dimensional rendering of an object. By using short pulses of light, a four-dimensional view can be obtained and provide snapshots of dynamic processes. The photoionization of electrons using intense laser beams is a fast and coherent process that has been exploited ...
