Evaluation of synaptotagmin‐1 action models by all‐atom molecular dynamics simulations
We used molecular dynamics simulations to test models proposing that synaptotagmin‐1 facilitates membrane fusion by perturbing lipid bilayers, inducing membrane curvature and/or bridging membranes. The simulations show that synaptotagmin‐1 C2‐domains placed near the site of fusion hinder the ability of SNARE complexes to bring the membranes together ...

FAM136A depletion upregulated ROS production, reduced mitochondrial membrane potential (ΔΨ) and ATP production, and upregulated expression of PCK1, PCK2, HMGCS1, and HMGCS2. The expression of both TOMM22 and TOMM20 was also upregulated. FAM136A depletion reduced HCCS that produce holocytochrome c by combining heme to apocytochrome c, and reduced the ...

Identification of inhibitors of the Salmonella FraB deglycase, a drug target
A high‐throughput screen was used to identify inhibitors of Salmonella FraB, a drug target. Characterization of top hits (identified after an additional counter screen) revealed that some triazolidines, thiadiazolidines, and triazolothiadiazoles are mixed‐type inhibitors of FraB.

Ab initio vibrations in nonequilibrium nanowires [PDF]
We review recent results on electronic and thermal transport in two different quasi one-dimensional systems: Silicon nanowires (SiNW) and atomic gold chains. For SiNW's we compute the ballistic electronic and thermal transport properties on equal footing, allowing us to make quantitative predictions for the thermoelectric properties, while for the ...

Mapping Hsp104 interactions using cross‐linking mass spectrometry
This study examines how cross‐linking mass spectrometry can be utilized to analyze ATP‐induced conformational changes in Hsp104 and its interactions with substrates. We developed an analytical pipeline to distinguish between intra‐ and inter‐subunit contacts within the hexameric homo‐oligomer and discovered contacts between Hsp104 and a selected ...

Alkane biosynthesis gene expression and its increased production in recombinant cyanobacteria
The transcription and mRNA structures of the alkane biosynthesis genes ado/aar were analysed in the representative cyanobacteria PCC 6803 and SK1‐2‐1, which produce C17H36 and C15H32, respectively. PCC 6803 transconjugants carrying these genes showed a 1.8‐ to 2.3‐fold increase in C17H36 production.

Cerebral organoids were employed as a novel model to explore the neurotoxicity of soman. Soman inhibited acetylcholinesterase activity, increased cell apoptosis and upregulated endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress markers glucose‐regulated protein 78 (GRP78), activating transcription factor 6 (ATF6) and C/EBP homologous protein (CHOP).

Detection of Neutron Scattering from Phase IV of Ce0.7La0.3B6: A Confirmation of the Octupole Order [PDF]
We have performed a single crystal neutron scattering experiment on Ce0.7La0.3B6 to investigate the order parameter of phase IV microscopically. Below the phase transition temperature 1.5 K of phase IV, weak but distinct superlattice reflections at the scattering vector (h/2,h/2,l/2) (h, l = odd number) have been observed by neutron scattering for the ...
