Structural and functional characterization of the newly identified Photorhabdus laumondii tumor necrosis factor‐like lectin

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
We characterize the PLTL lectin from Photorhabdus laumondii, which adopts a unique TNF‐like fold. Binding assays reveal a preference for branched histo‐blood group oligosaccharides. Protein crystallography uncovers a novel hexameric assembly and identifies key residues involved in carbohydrate recognition.

Electrophoresis of Plasma Lipoproteins on Gelatinized Cellulose Acetate

open access: yesClinical Chemistry, 1971
Abstract A method for electrophoretic separation of serum lipoproteins on gelatinized cellulose acetate is described, which does not involve any critical step, and allows repeatable results with a clear-cut separation of beta, pre-beta, alpha-lipoproteins, and chylomicrons. Many samples can be examined simultaneously on a large sheet and

Natural‐based antioxidants in cosmeceuticals: Extraction, bioavailability and skin ageing applications

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cosmetic Science, EarlyView.
Natural antioxidants from plants, fruits, seeds and fungi combat ageing by neutralizing free radicals, boosting collagen and protecting against UV damage. Enhanced by green extraction and smart delivery systems, they offer powerful anti‐inflammatory and antimicrobial benefits.

A Comparison of Measured and Predicted Haemoglobin Genotype in a Nigerian Population in Bonny, Rivers State, Nigeria

open access: yesJournal of Applied Sciences and Environmental Management, 2010
Cellulose acetate electrophoresis technique has been used to estimate haemoglobin genotype and the predicted values from the estimate in accordance with the population genetics studies (Fleming and Lehman 1982) were evaluated in 850 subjects (386 males ...

A Multifunctional β‐Defensin‐3 Mimetic Peptide Modulates Host–Biofilm Interactions and Reduces Bone Loss in Periodontitis

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
BDMP, a peptide that can penetrate cells and tissues, offering antimicrobial and anti‐inflammatory effects, has been identified as a potential new therapy for periodontitis. ABSTRACT Aim This study evaluated the potential of a beta‐defensin‐3 mimetic peptide (BDMP), a synthetic cell‐penetrating peptide with antimicrobial and immunomodulatory properties,
