Dysfunctional tetraspanin 7 (TSP‐7) in Caenorhabditis elegans promotes; increases in average life‐ & health‐span, stress‐induced survival and motility

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The C. elegans tetraspanin‐7 (tsp‐7) is a homologue of human CD63, which is a negative regulator of autophagy. The C. elegans strain, tm5761, has a dysfunctional (knockout) tsp‐7 gene. When compared to the wild‐type strain, the tm5761 strain shows increased: life‐ and health‐span; thermotolerance, and stress‐induced locomotion.

Variation of high molecular weight glutenin subunits in two neglected tetraploid wheat subspecies

open access: yesCzech Journal of Genetics and Plant Breeding, 2008
The genetic diversity of 140 accessions of Triticum turgidum ssp. carthlicum Nevski em. A. Löve & D. Löve and 159 accessions of T. turgidum ssp. polonicum L. em. Thell. was evaluated by the analysis of HMW glutenin subunits.

Mesoscopic simulations of polyelectrolyte electrophoresis in nanochannels [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2010
We present the results of mesoscopic dissipative particle dynamics (DPD) simulations of coupled electrohydrodynamic phenomena on the micro- and nanoscale. The effects of electroosmotic flow and slippage combined with polyelectrolyte electrophoresis are investigated in detail, taking full account of hydrodynamic and electrostatic interactions.

Polyelectrolyte Electrophoresis in Nanochannels: A Dissipative Particle Dynamics Simulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We present mesoscopic DPD-simulations of polyelectrolyte electrophoresis in confined nanogeometries, for varying salt concentration and surface slip conditions. Special attention is given to the influence of electroosmotic flow (EOF) on the migration of the polyelectrolyte.

Continuous-flow electrophoresis: Membrane-associated deviations of buffer pH and conductivity [PDF]

open access: yes
The deviations in buffer pH and conductivity which occur near the electrode membranes in continuous-flow electrophoresis were studied in the Beckman charged particle electrophoresis system and the Hanning FF-5 preparative electrophoresis instrument.

Genomic and proteomic profiling for cancer diagnosis in dogs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Global gene expression, whereby tumours are classified according to similar gene expression patterns or ‘signatures’ regardless of cell morphology or tissue characteristics, is being increasingly used in both the human and veterinary fields to assist in ...

Establishment and biological characterization of radioresistant colorectal cancer cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Under ionizing radiation exposure, radiation‐sensitive cancer cells exhibit oxidative stress and DNA damage, while radiation‐resistant cancer cells exhibit strong antioxidant properties and DNA damage repair. Radiotherapy resistance is a major cause of recurrence and metastasis in colorectal cancer (CRC).

Mutation in the RPE65 gene causing hereditary retinal dystrophy in the Briard dogs: application of a new detection method

open access: yesCzech Journal of Animal Science, 2008
Inherited eye diseases are widespread in most of the pure dog breeds and they show a severe impact on canine health, welfare and working ability. Congenital stationary night blindness (CSNB) was originally described in Briards.

A versatile electrophoresis system for the analysis of high- and low-molecular-weight proteins [PDF]

open access: yesMethods in molecular biology (Clifton, N.J.) 355 (2006) 111-20, 2006
A new, versatile, multiphasic buffer system for high-resolution sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis of proteins in the relative molecular weight range of 300 000-3000 Da is described. The system, based on the theory of multiphasic zone electrophoresis, allows complete stacking and destacking of proteins in the above M(r) range ...
