Liquid crystal-enabled electrophoresis of spheres in a nematic medium with negative dielectric anisotropy [PDF]
We describe electrophoresis of spherical dielectric particles in a uniformly aligned nematic medium with a negative dielectric anisotropy. A spherical particle that orients the liquid crystal (LC) perpendicularly to its surface moves under the application of the uniform direct current (DC) or alternating current (AC) electric field.

Urine is a rich source of biomarkers for cancer detection. Tumor‐derived material is released into the bloodstream and transported to the urine. Urine can easily be collected from individuals, allowing non‐invasive cancer detection. This review discusses the rationale behind urine‐based cancer detection and its potential for cancer diagnostics ...

Soliton-induced liquid crystal enabled electrophoresis [PDF]
Manipulation of particles by a uniform electric field, known as electrophoresis, is used in a wide array of applications. Of especial interest is electrophoresis driven by an alternating current (AC) as it eliminates electrode blocking and produces a steady motion.

The LEXOVE prospective study evaluated plasma cell‐free extracellular vesicle (cfEV) dynamics using Bradford assay and dynamic light scattering in metastatic non‐small cell lung cancer patients undergoing first‐line treatments, correlating a ∆cfEV < 20% with improved median progression‐free survival in responders versus non‐responders.

Development of Pipetting Devices to Separate Protein Complexes [PDF]
The objective of this project is to develop an automated device used to spot protein samples on a hydrophobic membrane to be used for the patented electrophoresis method developed by Chang and Yonan in 2008 [1]. This novel method performs electrophoresis directly on hydrophobic blot membranes as opposed to the previous popular methods such as the 2-D ...

An Unusual Electrophoresis [PDF]
A 41-year-old white male patient presented to the pulmonary clinic complaining of chronic exertional dyspnea. He had a 15-year history of smoking, but no prior diagnosis of lung disease. A comprehensive battery of laboratory tests was performed. Results for complete blood count, serum chemistry panel, hepatic function tests, and inflammatory markers ...

We assessed the associations between the gut microbiota and outcome in metastatic triple‐negative breast cancer patients treated with chemotherapy alone or chemotherapy in combination with immunotherapy. Our data indicate that high gut microbiota alpha diversity was associated with improved clinical outcome and with benefit from immunotherapy.

Evaluation of nonionic and zwitterionic detergents as membrane protein solubilizers in two-dimensional electrophoresis [PDF]
The solubilizing power of various nonionic and zwitterionic detergents as membrane protein solubilizers for two-dimensional electrophoresis was investigated. Human red blood cell ghosts and Arabidopsis thaliana leaf membrane proteins were used as model systems. Efficient detergents could be found in each class, i.e.
