Thermal Fatigue Behavior of AISI H13 Hot Work Tool Steel Produced by Direct Laser Metal Deposition

open access: yessteel research international, Volume 94, Issue 4, April 2023., 2023
The thermal fatigue (TF) behavior of direct laser metal deposition‐H13 submitted to direct tempering (T‐H13) and quenching and tempering (QT‐H13) is investigated. T‐H13 shows slightly better TF resistance than QT‐H13, thanks to the higher tempering resistance, allowing the possible elimination of quenching, lower production costs as well as distortions‐

Effect of the Slag Composition on the Process Behavior, Energy Consumption, and Nonmetallic Inclusions during Electroslag Remelting

open access: yessteel research international, Volume 94, Issue 4, April 2023., 2023
The focus of this investigation is to determine the effect of a wide variation of the CaF2 content in the slag on energy consumption, as well as on nonmetallic inclusion during electroslag remelting. The results indicate the potential to use slags with higher resistivity without significant losses in product quality.

Influences of Manufacturing‐Related Microstructural Variations on Fatigue in Carbide‐Rich Tool Steels

open access: yessteel research international, Volume 94, Issue 4, April 2023., 2023
Tool service life is limited by wear resistance and fatigue strength. Herein, a correlation of manufacturing‐related defect sizes and fatigue strength is presented. Powder metallurgy steels show significantly higher high‐cycle fatigue (HCF) strength than ingot cast steels.

Very high cycle fatigue under tension/torsion loading of mold low alloy steel

open access: yesFatigue &Fracture of Engineering Materials &Structures, Volume 46, Issue 2, Page 742-755, February 2023., 2023
Abstract Ultrasonic fatigue testing (UFT) is a recent fatigue methodology that applies resonance to achieve very high cyclic load frequencies. Its primary purpose is to study fatigue in the very high cycle fatigue regime. In this study, an UFT machine was used to conduct multiaxial tension/torsion fatigue tests at a 20‐kHz frequency.

Numerical Simulations of the Molten Metal Droplet Formation in the Electroslag Remelting Process with a Rotating Electrode

open access: yessteel research international, Volume 93, Issue 12, December 2022., 2022
A description of the numerical simulation and the simulation results of electroslag remelting (ESR) with a rotating electrode is shown. A radial shift of droplet detachment, but no significant effect on metal film thickness, droplet trajectory, or droplet size can be observed.

Effect of Mold Flux Containing Ce2O3 on the Contents of Aluminum, Silicon, and Titanium in Incoloy825 Super Alloy

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, Volume 2022, Issue 1, 2022., 2022
The effect of mold flux containing Ce2O3 on the contents of aluminum, silicon, and titanium in Incoloy825 super alloy was investigated based on the slag‐steel interfacial chemical reaction experiment between mold flux and alloy. Firstly, the activity model of the CaO‐SiO2‐Al2O3‐Na2O‐MgO‐CaF2‐Ce2O3 slag system was established according to the ion and ...

Application limits and sensitisation behaviour of the manganese‐ and nitrogen‐alloyed austenitic stainless steel P2000 (X13CrMnMoN18‐14‐3)

open access: yesMaterials and Corrosion, Volume 72, Issue 10, Page 1656-1667, October 2021., 2021
This study investigates the mechanical properties, corrosion resistance and sensitisation behaviour of the newly developed nickel‐free, austenitic high‐nitrogen‐alloyed stainless steel P2000. To ensure a better understanding and classify the alloy, the results are then compared with the measurements of nickel‐containing austenitic stainless steels 304 ...
