Ergothioneine supplementation improves pup phenotype and survival in a murine model of spinal muscular atrophy

Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a genetic disease affecting motor neurons. Individuals with SMA experience mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress. The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of an antioxidant and neuroprotective substance, ergothioneine (ERGO), on an SMNΔ7 mouse model of SMA.

Nitric oxide‐forming nitrite reductases in the anaerobic ammonium oxidizer Kuenenia stuttgartiensis

Anammox bacteria remove fixed nitrogen from their environment via anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox) with nitrite as electron acceptor and dinitrogen gas as product. The first anammox step is the conversion of nitrite to nitric oxide by nitrite reductase.

Superhydrophobic electrosprayed PTFE

This paper shows the deposition of superhydrophobic PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) films on FTO (fluorine doped tin oxide) coated glass slides, employing the electrospray technique, using a commercial PTFE particle suspension in water. Water contact angles as high as 167° were measured on the PTFE surface.

A dual-channel electrospray microchip has been developed for electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) where aqueous samples are mixed at the Taylor cone with an organic buffer. Due to the fast and effective mixing in the Taylor cone, the aqueous sample can be well ionized with a high ion intensity.
