Measuring electrostatic charge by ultrasound impulse excitation

2015 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting, 2015
A novel method is proposed for non-contact measurement of electrostatic charge on a surface using focused impulse ultrasound to excite movement of a charged object. The focused impulse ultrasound is generated by turning the 40 kHz ultrasound signal on/off and a phased-array method using airborne ultrasound transducers.

Kinetic investigations of nonlinear electrostatic excitations in quantum plasmas

Physical Review E, 2022
For plasmas in an extremely high-density state, like stellar cores or compressed fuel in inertial fusion facilities, their behavior turns out to be quite different when compared with those plasmas in interstellar space or magnetic confinement devices.

Electrostatically Excited Diaphragm Driven As A Loudspeaker

Proceedings of the International Solid-State Sensors and Actuators Conference - TRANSDUCERS '95, 1996
Abstract This paper is focused on a hermetically sealed cavity which can be electrostatically excited and driven as a loudspeaker. The actuation principle is based on a diaphragm that is rolling against the cavity bottom to reach both large displacements and strong electrostatic forces.

Electrostatics and gating of excitable membranes

International Journal of Quantum Chemistry, 1983
AbstractTwo electrostatic models for ion permeability of membranes are considered. In the first model ions pass hydrated through the membrane and in the second model ions pass unhydrated through a channel lined with polar groups. In both cases it is found that it is not necessary to assume a high macroscopic dielectric constant of the membrane or ...

Residual‐based a posteriori estimators for the potential formulations of electrostatic and time‐harmonic eddy current problems with voltage or current excitation [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 2016
International audienceIn this paper, we present some residual-based a posteriori estimators for the potential formulations of electrostatic and time-harmonic eddy current problems with voltage or current excitation.

Dual excitation multiphase electrostatic drive

IAS '95. Conference Record of the 1995 IEEE Industry Applications Conference Thirtieth IAS Annual Meeting, 2002
A novel electrostatic drive technology, named the dual excitation multiphase electrostatic drive (DEMED) is presented. A basic DEMED consists of two plastic films in which three-phase parallel electrodes are embedded and is driven by three-phase AC excitation to the electrodes.

Gas damping of electrostatically excited resonators

Sensors and Actuators A: Physical, 1997
Abstract The aim of one present investigation is to determine the influence of both pressure and cavity depth on the mechanical Q-factor for electrostatically excited and capacitively detected encapsulated microresonators. In this paper, we present vibration Q-factor results for bulk-micromachined resonator structures in silicon which have been ...

Excitation of Electrostatic Ion Cyclotron Oscillations

The Physics of Fluids, 1966
It has been observed that an electron current drawn to an electrode immersed in a magnetized plasma can excite oscillation near the ion cyclotron frequency. A theory is derived which predicts such oscillation due to a destabilizing influence of the sheath voltage drop at the electrode on the plasma column. Experimental evidence is presented which shows
