Electrostatic wave excitation in planetary magnetospheres: Application to Neptune

Voyager 2 observations of electrostatic electron and ion cyclotron harmonic waves in Neptune's magnetosphere are addressed. Abstract Self-excited electrostatic ion cyclotron waves were observed in an ion-beam-plasma system produced in a DP-operated Q-machine. The frequency of the waves showed the theoretically predicted variation with the magnetic field.

Excitation of electrostatic plasma turbulence by a magneto-acoustic wave

An integral equation which generalizes the dispersion relation for electrostatic plasma modes with wave numbers in the presence of a large-scale magnetoacoustic (pump) oscillation is derived. This calculation is accurate to all orders in the parameter where is the amplitude of the particle displacement induced by the pump wave.
