An element-free Galerkin method for the obstacle problem

Applied Mathematics Letters, 2021
This article discusses an element-free Galerkin method for the numerical approximation of solutions to obstacle boundary value problems. The approach relies on linearization techniques combined with stabilized element-free Galerkin methods. The convergence of the algorithm is discussed and various numerical experiments are included to support the ...

Element‐free Galerkin methods

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 1994
AbstractAn element‐free Galerkin method which is applicable to arbitrary shapes but requires only nodal data is applied to elasticity and heat conduction problems. In this method, moving least‐squares interpolants are used to construct the trial and test functions for the variational principle (weak form); the dependent variable and its gradient are ...

Consistent element‐free Galerkin method

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 2014
SUMMARYAn element‐free Galerkin (EFG) method with linear, quadratic and cubic approximations, which can exactly, in a numerical sense, pass the corresponding patch tests is proposed and is named as consistent EFG (CEFG) method. The development of this method is based on the Hu–Washizu three‐field variational principle.
