DYNAMIC FRACTURE USING ELEMENT-FREE GALERKIN METHODS

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 1996
The element-free Galerkin method for dynamic crack propagation is described and applied to several problems. This method is a gridless method, which facilitates the modelling of growing crack problems because it does not require remeshing; the growth of the crack is modelled by extending its surfaces.

On elimination of shear locking in the element‐free Galerkin method

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 2001
AbstractIn this study, a method for completely eliminating the presence of transverse shear locking in the application of the element‐free Galerkin method (EFGM) to shear‐deformable beams and plates is presented. The matching approximation fields concept of Donning and Liu has shown that shear locking effects may be prevented if the approximate ...

An element‐free Galerkin method for metal forming simulations

Engineering Computations, 2009
PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to investigate the application of the element‐free Galerkin (EFG) method to the simulation of metal forming processes and to propose a strategy to deal with volumetric locking problem in this context.Design/methodology/approachThe J2 elastoplastic material model, employed in the work, assumes a multiplicative ...

A three-dimensional explicit element-free galerkin method

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids, 1997
Summary: The formulation and implementation of a three-dimensional meshless method, the element-free Galerkin method, are described. The formulation is intended for dynamic problems with geometric and material nonlinearities solved with explicit time integration.
