Elevated plus maze protocol v1
This protocol describes steps for assessing anxiety-like behavior in rodents using an elevated plus maze test. The elevated plus maze (EPM) is one of the widely used behavioral assays to measure anxiety-like behaviors in rodents. In the EPM test, rats or mice are placed at the intersection of a plus-shaped maze with two open arms and two closed arms.

The submerged plus maze as an assay for studying anxiety-like behaviour in fish
The elevated plus maze is a commonly used and well-validated test of anxiety-related behaviour in rodents. The use of fish in behavioural neuroscience paradigms is increasing, necessitating an equivalent test for studying anxiety-like behaviour in fish ...

α-Synuclein induced toxicity in brain stem serotonin neurons mediated by an AAV vector driven by the tryptophan hydroxylase promoter [PDF]
We studied the impact of α-synuclein overexpression in brainstem serotonin neurons using a novel vector construct where the expression of human wildtype α-synuclein is driven by the tryptophan hydroxylase promoter, allowing expression of α-synuclein at ...

Cholinergic cells in the nucleus basalis of mice express the N-methyl-D-aspartate-receptor subunit NR2C and its replacement by the NR2B subunit enhances frontal and amygdaloid acetylcholine levels [PDF]
It is known that glutamatergic and cholinergic systems interact functionally at the level of the cholinergic basal forebrain. The N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDA-R) is a multiprotein complex composed of NR1, NR2 and/or NR3 subunits.

Anxiogenic Effect of Low-dose Methamphetamine in the Test of Elevated Plus-maze
Methamphetamines (MA) are psychostimulant drugs that are known to change individuals’ behavior. Psychostimulants could either evoke positive emotions (e.g. joy and happiness) or attenuate negative emotional states (e.g. anxiety and depression) in humans.

Minimal long-term neurobehavioral impairments after endovascular perforation subarachnoid hemorrhage in mice [PDF]
Cognitive deficits are among the most severe and pervasive consequences of aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). A critical step in developing therapies targeting such outcomes is the characterization of experimentally-tractable pre-clinical models ...

Dose-related effects of propericiazine in rats
We evaluated the effects of the neuroleptic agent propericiazine on animal models of anxiety and memory. Adult male Wistar rats (250 to 350 g) received intraperitoneal injections of propericiazine (0.05, 0.075 and 0.1 mg/kg), diazepam (1 mg/kg), saline ...
