The ecology of insect pests and fungal pathogens of drought stressed eucalypt plantations in southern Queensland [PDF]
The eucalypt plantation industry is rapidly expanding to supply an increasing demand for wood both in Australia and other parts of the world. Despite rapid industry development, most eucalypt plantations are restricted to four coastal areas.

Hospital‐treated infections are linked to increased risk of inflammatory bowel disease in a large prospective cohort. This risk differs by infection burden, time since infection, and host immune‐genetic susceptibility. The findings support a multi‐hit pathogenesis model in which severe infection and inherited susceptibility jointly shape inflammatory ...

An integrated Human Airway Microbiome Gene Catalog (iHAMGC) is constructed from 12,273 metagenomic airway samples, providing a high‐resolution reference of respiratory microbial genes. The catalog enables systematic exploration of taxonomic and functional variation across airway niches and geographic regions, revealing site‐specific and region ...

Molecular diagnostics for fungal plant pathogens
Accurate identification of fungal phytopathogens is essential for virtually all aspects of plant pathology, from fundamental research on the biology of pathogens to the control of the diseases they cause.

A review of the influence of root-associating fungi and root exudates on the success of invasive plants [PDF]
Plant-fungal interactions are essential for understanding the distribution and abundance of plants species. Recently, arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal (AMF) partners of non-indigenous invasive plants have been hypothesized to be a critical factor ...

Subversion of Atypical Mucin Traps by a Spore‐Coat Effector Blocks Cellular Immunity in Drosophila
While the entomopathogenic fungus Metarhizium robertsii can evade insect humoral immunity, its subversion of cellular defenses is still elusive. We identify Eac1 as a spore‐coat protein essential for infecting drosophilids by targeting atypical mucins (Sgf1 and Sgf2), which can entrap spores in a gel matrix and thereby facilitate hemocyte encapsulation.

Engineered macrophages programmed in situ by LNP‐delivered IL‐6/4 fusion and LL37 mRNAs simultaneously dampen cytokine storm, promote M2‐like repair, and enhance direct bacterial killing in sepsis. This combinatorial strategy restores T cell and macrophage function, lowers organ bacterial burden, and improves survival, highlighting a precision, host ...
