All Hands on Deck: Transdisciplinary Approaches to Emerging Infectious Disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The increasing burden of emerging infectious diseases worldwide confronts us with numerous challenges, including the imperative to design research and responses that are commensurate to understanding the complex social and ecological contexts in which ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Climate, biodiversity, land use changes and zoonotic infectious diseases in Southeast Asia : O15 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Numerous parasitic and infectious diseases are emerging, re-emerging or causing recurrent outbreaks in Southeast-Asia, a hot spot of both infectious disease emergence and biodiversity at threat.

Emerging infectious diseases and insensible bacillus infectious diseases. Emerging infectious diseases. O157 infectious disease.

open access: yesNihon Naika Gakkai Zasshi, 1997

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Clinical perspectives of emerging pathogens in bleeding disorders. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
As a result of immunological and nucleic-acid screening of plasma donations for transfusion-transmissible viruses, and the incorporation of viral reduction processes during plasma fractionation, coagulation-factor concentrates (CFC) are now judged safe ...

Emerging infectious diseases and insensible bacillus infectious diseases. Emerging infectious diseases. Legionella infectious disease.

open access: yesNihon Naika Gakkai Zasshi, 1997

In vitro models of cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity uncover subtype‐specific effects of CRISPR perturbations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...

Metagenomic characterisation of additional and novel avian viruses from Australian wild ducks

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2020
Birds, notably wild ducks, are reservoirs of pathogenic and zoonotic viruses such as influenza viruses and coronaviruses. In the current study, we used metagenomics to detect and characterise avian DNA and RNA viruses from wild Pacific black ducks ...
