Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
FEBS Letters, EarlyView.Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Nihon Naika Gakkai Zasshi, 1997 1996年夏に多発した腸管出血性大腸菌O157感染症は医学的,細菌学的のみならず社会的な問題ともなった.本年になっても多くの集団例,散発例が報告され,けっして我々のまわりからO157の危険が去ったわけではない. O157感染症の大きな問題点はその病態が単なる食中毒のような腸管感染症にとどまらず, HUSや脳症のような重篤な合併症を併発し全身性感染症的要素を有すること,また合併症に対する有効な治療法が確立していないことである.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids
FEBS Letters, EarlyView.Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Nihon Naika Gakkai Zasshi, 1997 レジオネラは土壌細菌で世界中に分布しているが,近代の文化的生活における人工環境の至る所で増殖し,近年新たな展開を見せている.特に,人工環境水においては共存するアメーバを媒体として大量に増殖し,ありとあらゆる環境水からレジオネラ感染の危険性が高まっている.人工環境水の消毒の問題は人体への影響を考慮する必要があり,困難をきわめている状態である.わが国にはビル管理基準としての冷却塔におけるレジオネラ症防止指針が作成されているが,米国のCDCのような院内感染防止指針やその他の環境水に対する水の管理基準の策定はこれからである.診断法はPCR法や尿中抗原検出などかなりの進歩が見られているので,疑わしい症例では積極的にしかるべき施設へ依頼してでも確定診断を得る努力をする必要がある.
