Deep Clustering Activation Maps for Emphysema Subtyping [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
We propose a deep learning clustering method that exploits dense features from a segmentation network for emphysema subtyping from computed tomography (CT) scans. Using dense features enables high-resolution visualization of image regions corresponding to the cluster assignment via dense clustering activation maps (dCAMs).

New Spirometry Indices for Detecting Mild Airflow Obstruction. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The diagnosis of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) relies on demonstration of airflow obstruction. Traditional spirometric indices miss a number of subjects with respiratory symptoms or structural lung disease on imaging.

The impact of emphysema on surgical outcomes of early-stage lung cancer: a retrospective study

open access: yesBMC Pulmonary Medicine, 2019
Background The presence of emphysema on computed tomography (CT) is associated with an increased frequency of lung cancer, but the postoperative outcomes of patients with pulmonary emphysema are not well known.

The association of chest computed tomography-defined visual emphysema and prognosis in patients with nonsmall cell lung cancer

open access: yesERJ Open Research, 2023
Background Although computed tomography (CT)-defined emphysema is considered a predictor of lung cancer risk, it is not fully clear whether CT-defined emphysema is associated with the prognosis of lung cancer. We aimed to assess the clinical impact of CT-

Eosinophil-derived IL-13 promotes emphysema

open access: yesEuropean Respiratory Journal, 2019
The inflammatory responses in chronic airway diseases leading to emphysema are not fully defined. We hypothesised that lung eosinophilia contributes to airspace enlargement in a mouse model and to emphysema in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary ...

n-3系脂肪散を強化した食事療法が有効と考えられた肺気腫の一例 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
An effective treatment for the advanced stages of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) has not been established yet. We report our recent experience of one patient with pulmonary emphysema treated by dietary supplementation of n-3 fatty acid for ...

Avoidable Hospitalizations in Persons With Rheumatoid Arthritis: A Population‐Based Study Using Administrative Data

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective We estimated incidence rates of avoidable hospitalizations by persons with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) relative to the general population. Methods We identified individuals meeting a validated case definition for RA based on International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD‐9‐CM) and ICD‐10‐CA codes in years ...
