Spatial and Temporal Evolution Characteristics of Potential Evapotranspiration in Huai River Basin Based on Empirical Orthogonal Function Analysis

open access: yesShuitu baochi yanjiu, 2023
[Objective] The aim of this study is to reveal the temporal and spatial evolution of potential evapotranspiration(ET0)and clarify the main causes of ET0 change in the Huai River basin, then to provide reference research for water resources management ...

Enhancing Amphibious Flipper‐Based Locomotion Through Terrain‐Dependent Bayesian Optimization of Central Pattern Generator Control

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A sea turtle‐inspired amphibious robot uses simulation‐guided optimization to adapt its flipper coordination to different environments. Sensitivity analysis and multiobjective Bayesian optimization identify terrain‐dependent controllers that are validated on hardware.

Cyclostationary empirical orthogonal function sea‐level reconstruction

open access: yesGeoscience Data Journal, 2014
Since 1993, satellite altimetry has provided accurate measurements of sea surface height with near‐global coverage. These measurements led to the first definitive estimates of global mean sea‐level (GMSL) rise and have improved understanding of how sea levels are changing regionally at decadal time scales.

Consensus Formation and Change are Enhanced by Neutrality

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Neutral agents are shown to enhance both the formation and overturning of consensus in collective decision‐making. A general mathematical model and experiments with locusts and humans reveal that neutrality enables robust consensus via simple interactions and accelerates consensus change by reducing effective population size.

Using a Lanczos Eigensolver in the Computation of Empirical Orthogonal Functions

open access: yesMonthly Weather Review, 2001
Abstract In the framework of physical field studies, EOF analysis allows the scientist to determine the modes that govern the variability of a phenomenon. The analysis requires the resolution of a linear algebra problem. This paper focuses on this part of the EOF analysis, the computation of some singular values, and the associated vectors of the data ...

Solid Harmonic Wavelet Bispectrum for Image Analysis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The Solid Harmonic Wavelet Bispectrum (SHWB), a rotation‐ and translation‐invariant descriptor that captures higher‐order (phase) correlations in signals, is introduced. Combining wavelet scattering, bispectral analysis, and group theory, SHWB achieves interpretable, data‐efficient representations and demonstrates competitive performance across texture,

Local Regularization Assisted Orthogonal Least Squares Regression

open access: yes, 2006
A locally regularized orthogonal least squares (LROLS) algorithm is proposed for constructing parsimonious or sparse regression models that generalize well.

A-optimality orthogonal forward regression algorithm using branch and bound

open access: yes, 2008
In this brief, we propose an orthogonal forward regression (OFR) algorithm based on the principles of the branch and bound (BB) and A-optimality experimental design.

VC Bounds on the Cardinality of Nearly Orthogonal Function Classes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We bound the number of nearly orthogonal vectors with fixed VC-dimension over {−1,1}n. Our bounds are of interest in machine learning and empirical process theory and improve previous bounds by Haussler.

Engineering Microbial Particles for Next‐Generation Biomedical Platforms

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Microbe‐derived particles (MDPs), which include extracellular vesicles, outer membrane vesicles, inclusion bodies, polysaccharide particles, and virus‐like particles, represent a rapidly expanding category of bioinspired nanomaterials. With their natural origin, intrinsic biocompatibility, and highly programmable functionality, MDPs serve as a ...
