Research on lightning overvoltage in Ecuador 230kV GIS substation based on EMTP-RV
2021 IEEE 4th International Electrical and Energy Conference (CIEEC), 2021The simulation model of a new 230 kV GIS substation in Ecuador was established by EMTP-RV. The lightning overvoltage levels of the main equipment in the substation under different modes of thunder wave invasion, different tower and substation operation are calculated, and the insulation coordination of each equipment is checked.

Power Transformer and Surge Arrester Modeling for Fast Front Overvoltages Using EMTP-RV
2020 IEEE/PES Transmission and Distribution Conference and Exposition (T&D), 2020Inadequately rated surge protection devices in a power system can result in partial, complete as well as catastrophic damage to assets from overvoltages. A conservative approach could be to adopt the highest value(s) of rated insulation level for a given voltage class, however, this approach may be uneconomical and impractical.

Evaluating Harmonic Diversity of Solar Farms Using Equivalent Current Sources in EMTP-RV
2020 IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting (PESGM), 2020This paper demonstrates the application of current source models (CSMs) in EMTP-RV to study the interaction of harmonic currents from inverter-based solar farms with the grid. The CSM represents the harmonic current injections of a solar farm at the high voltage side of its transformer.

Modeling, control and simulation of a chain link STATCOM in EMTP-RV
Electric Power Systems Research, 2009Abstract This paper describes an alternative STATic synchronous COMpensator (STATCOM), by connecting a number of gate turn off (GTO) thyristor converters in series on the ac side of the system. Each GTO converter forms one ‘link’ of a 1-phase, full-bridge voltage–source-converter (VSC) and is referred to as a ‘Chain Link Converter’ (CLC). Each GTO of

An Advanced Interface Between the LIOV Code and the EMTP-RV
2008Accurate evaluation of the response of overhead distribution lines to lightning electromagnetic pulse (LEMP) represents an important aspect in insulation coordination of distribution networks. The improvement of the accuracy of such an analysis calls for the extension of the field-to-transmission line coupling models from single straight lines to multi-

Simulation of transient regimes from a naval power system using EMTP-RV
Eurocon 2013, 2013This paper presents the simulations made with a special software (EMTP-RV) for the analysis of transient regimes corresponding to the disconnection of a generator from the supplying bars from a power naval system, which is a system with limited power. One could determine the effects of driving various protections at the chosen timings.

Computation of power system transients: Modeling portability using EMTP-RV DLL
2011 IEEE Power and Energy Society General Meeting, 2011This panel paper presents research activities related to modeling portability between electromagnetic transient (EMT) simulation programs using DLL programming. Although modern EMT computer programs are based on sophisticated graphical user interfaces, each program has its own modeling interface and model development methods.

Switching transient overvoltage study simulation comparison using PSCAD/EMTDC and EMTP-RV
2013 Proceedings of IEEE Southeastcon, 2012Switching transients are an important factor on the equipment selection, protection and tower air clearances. Lightning and switching are two primary causes of transient overvoltage in power systems. This paper focuses on a comparative study of the modeling and simulation of a switching transient overvoltage study using two widely used simulation tools:
