EMTP modeling of hybrid HVDC breakers

2015 IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting, 2015
HVDC meshed systems offer several advantages in front of their HVAC counterparts. However, the lack of fast, low-losses and reliable circuit breaker technology has postponed their implementation. A recently proposed hybrid breaker design can alter this situation.

A high frequency transformer model for the EMTP

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 1993
A model to simulate the high-frequency behavior of a power transformer is presented. This model is based on the frequency characteristics of the transformer admittance matrix between its terminals over a given range of frequencies. The transformer admittance characteristics can be obtained from measurements or from detailed internal models based on the

Universal Arc Representation Using EMTP

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2005
A preliminary description of a new arc representation has been introduced in . In which, the Modified Mayr (P-/spl tau/ model) arc equations are solved in the transient analysis control system (TACS) field of the electromagnetic transient program (EMTP) and represented in the power network by TACS controlled voltage source.

MODELS: A new simulation tool in the emtp

European Transactions on Electrical Power, 1992
AbstractMODELS is an autonomous general‐purpose simulation program recently interfaced to two versions of the Electromagnetic Transients Program (EMTP). This interfacing enables the description of components that could not be represented easily until now using the electrical elements of the EMTP and the set of control blocks available in its TACS ...

Headway of Transformer Models in EMTDC/EMTP

2007 8th International Conference on Electronic Measurement and Instruments, 2007
The developments of transformer models in electromagnetic transients programs of EMTP/EMTDC are introduced in details. We show that different transformer models can result in different transients' phenomena. It is seen that UMEC model is more accurate for simulation on non-linear analysis than classical transformer models.

Discussion on the initialization of the EMTP-type programs

Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering, 2005., 2006
A discussion on the initialization of the electromagnetic transient programs (the EMTP-type programs) is presented in this paper. Since power systems are getting larger, establishing the steady state of a network for transient study can be very time consuming. Initializing the EMTP-type programs must be undertaken to improve their solution speeds.

Emtp simulation of synchronous machine from standstill to synchronization

2009 IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting, 2009
This paper presents the modeling and simulation studies for the startup of a 250 MVA pumped storage unit in pumping mode and the startup of a 65 MVA hydraulic unit as a corrective action following an uncontrolled islanding of an area due to an extreme contingency.

Simulation of electromagnetic transients with EMTP-RV

2015
This chapter presented a summary on numerical methods used in EMTP (EMTPRV version) for the computation of electromagnetic transients. EMTP offers several options and modules for the simulation and analysis of complex power systems. EMTP offers a unified environment that can be applied to study power systems from steady-state conditions, to ...

Validation of Power Quality Toolbox in EMTP

2019
Numerous problems related to voltage and current harmonic effects in power systems are commonly observed nowadays due to growth of large industrial consumers with non-linear loads and power electronic equipment. Higher harmonics cause the following unwanted effects in electrical networks: additional heating and losses on power system elements (such as ...
