Easier, Safer, and Greener: Unlocking the Power of Solid Reagents in Organic Reactions by Mechanochemistry

open access: yesChemistryEurope, EarlyView.
This review highlights the powerful synergy between mechanochemistry and solid reagents to replace hazardous substances traditionally used in organic synthesis. Such an approach offers a safer and more sustainable pathway for conducting organic reactions, with potential benefits in both reactivity and selectivity. The use of solid bases, acids, and gas

The Chemistry of Subphthalocyanines: Synthetic Strategies for their Axial, Peripheral, and Remote Postfunctionalization

open access: yesChemistryEurope, EarlyView.
From axial and peripheral reactivity to remote derivatization, the chemical versatility of subphthalocyanines (SubPcs) renders them ideal scaffolds for the design of advanced functional materials. This review assembles the synthetic toolbox, key reaction conditions, and future challenges in SubPc functionalization, guiding the development of next ...

Cyclization of Citronellal to Isopulegol Catalyzed by Temperature‐Stable Aluminum Complexes with Tripodal Tris(silanolate) Ligands

open access: yesChemistryEurope, EarlyView.
C3‐Symmetric aluminum chelate complexes endowed with tripodal tris‐silanolate ligands are shown to be excellent catalysts for the selective carbonyl ene‐type cyclization of citronellal to isopulegol as the key intermediate of the current industrial syntheses of menthol.

Imidazoline‐Proline and Imidazoline‐Prolinate Ligands for Copper‐Catalyzed Asymmetric Exo‐Selective [3 + 2] Cycloaddition of Iminoesters with Nitroalkenes

open access: yesChemistryEurope, EarlyView.
From a modular synthesis of nonphosphine chiral nitrogen‐based chiral imidazoline–amino acid ligands, two new chiral imidazoline–proline‐copper catalysts are developed for targeting exo‐selective [3 + 2] cycloaddition reaction. Density functional theory studies rationalize the observed stereoselectivity and the distinct chiral pockets of the two ...

Well‐Defined Rhodium and Iridium Complexes Containing Chiral Cyclic(Alkyl)(Amino)Carbenes for Asymmetric Hydrogenation

open access: yesChemistryEurope, EarlyView.
A set of fourteen well‐defined rhodium and iridium complexes containing various enantiopure cyclic(alkyl)(amino)carbene (ChiCAAC) ligands (>96% ee to > 99.5% ee) has been synthesized and fully characterized. While no enantioselectivity is observed with chiral Rh‐CAAC, the Ir‐CAAC counterparts demonstrated good performances in the asymmetric ...

Total Synthesis and Complete Stereochemical Assignment of Amphirionin‐5, a Potent Natural Osteoblasts Proliferator

open access: yesChemistryEurope, EarlyView.
The convergent total synthesis of a candidate diastereomer of amphirionin‐5 was accomplished in 22 steps via the coupling of the C1‐C16 enone segment and the C17‐C28 aldehyde segment using Stetter reaction. The overall stereochemistry of amphirionin‐5 was fully assigned, based on the comparison of spectroscopic and chiroptical data between the ...

Chiral recognition and enantiomer excess determination based on emission wavelength change of AIEgen rotor

open access: yesNature Communications, 2020
Chiral recognition, such as enantioselective interactions of enzyme with chiral agents, is one of the most important issues in the natural world. But artificial chiral receptors are much less efficient than natural ones.

Enantiomer-Selective Molecular Sensing Using Racemic Nanoplasmonic Arrays

open access: yesNano Letters, 2018
Building blocks of life show well-defined chiral symmetry which has a direct influence on their properties and role in Nature. Chiral molecules are typically characterized by optical techniques such as circular dichroism (CD) where they exhibit ...
