An introduction to enantiomers in psychopharmacology
Human Psychopharmacology: Clinical and Experimental, 2001There is growing scientific, clinical, commercial and regulatory recognition that enantiomers offer benefits over racemates in the management of psychiatric diseases as well as in clinical medicine generally. However, relatively few studies consider enantiomers' individual characteristics.

CHROMATOGRAPHIC RESOLUTION OF ENANTIOMERS
Chemical Engineering Communications, 1998Abstract In the pharmaceutical industry, the increasing demand of new single enantiomer products has raised a great interest towards chromatographic separation methods. While analytical applications of high performance liquid chromatography and gas chromatography are well established, the scaling up to preparative applications still needs a better ...

Biotransformation of deprenyl enantiomers
European Journal of Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics, 1999Rats were treated with either (-)- or (+)-deprenyl, and the metabolites extracted from the plasma, liver, kidney and heart homogenates were studied by chiral capillary electrophoresis (CE). Stereoselective dealkylation of both optical isomers with the formation of desmethyldeprenyl (DD), methamphetamine (MA), and amphetamine (A) was found.

Enantiomers in arthritic disorders
Pharmacology & Therapeutics, 1990Drugs which have a center of asymmetry are often administered as an equal mixture of the two possible enantiomeric forms i.e. a racemate. However, there are frequently large pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic differences between enantiomers. Consequently, it is possible that while one enantiomer mediates the antiinflammatory or antirheumatic action ...

The pharmacokinetics of the enantiomers of atenolol
Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, 1989A number of studies have demonstrated that lipophilic beta-adrenoceptor blocking agents, eliminated almost exclusively by hepatic metabolism, are stereoselectively metabolized in human beings. Previous studies in our laboratory have demonstrated that pindolol, a beta-adrenoceptor blocking agent of intermediate lipophilicity that is eliminated by both ...

Kinetics of misonidazole enantiomers
Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, 1984The kinetics of misonidazole enantiomers were followed in nine healthy subjects after a single oral dose of racemic misonidazole (1.0 gm/m2). Mean clearance of (+)-misonidazole was 14% greater than that for (-)-misonidazole and mean volume of distribution was slightly greater (3%) for the (+)-enantiomer.
