In 2009, when Lonza made a bid to acquire Patheon, a contract manufacturer of drugs in final dosage form, industry watchers shook their heads and said, “Nope.” Such an acquisition didn’t make sense, given the fundamental differences between Lonza’s main business, the manufacture of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), and Patheon’s production of ...

Importance of Vessel Tension in End-to-End and End-in-End Anastomoses
Journal of Reconstructive Microsurgery, 1987Arterial end-in-end and end-to-end microanastomoses were done experimentally under natural tension and without tension. Intraluminal plastic casts were made at different postoperative time intervals, and the resulting stenosis at the site of anastomosis compared by lumen area measurements.

This chapter talks about the suspension of banishment to the Great Northern Wilderness and the post-banishment experiences of political exiles, showing that the mass deaths in the borderlands and countryside prompted the central government to evacuate rightists. In the early 1960s, the majority of Beijing rightists were allowed to leave the army farms,

Lipreading is the task of decoding text from the movement of a speaker’s mouth. This research presents the development of an advanced end-to-end lipreading system. Leveraging deep learning architectures and multimodal fusion techniques, the proposed system interprets spoken language solely from visual cues, such as lip movements.

I hope this record of the journey of an electrical engineer, whose only truck with discrete maths was using boolean algebra to design simple digital electronics and who thought sets were something best left to tennis players, into the intricacies of congruence in SCCS and multiple fixed points in mu-calculus, will be of some use to those who have ...

Histopathology of microarterial anastomoses: End-to-end versus end-in-end (sleeve) technique
The Journal of Hand Surgery, 1990The healing process of microarterial anastomoses after two different techniques is described after an evaluation of 80 rabbit arterial anastomoses. The two techniques used were as follows: group I, conventional end-to-end technique; and group II, end-in-end (sleeve) technique.

A modern pharmaceutical manufacturing plant looks a lot like a classical chemistry lab. As has been the case for more than a century, most drugs that come out of these factories are made via stepwise reactions, purifications, and final product formulation. In a handful of plants, however, continuous-flow processes are starting to creep in.

This paper assesses the conceptual and technological negotiation of an absolute end. The idea of a total ending is sublime: it is located outside of language and powerful precisely because of its sheer incomprehensibility. Yet, through the 20th century the United States built large-scale technological systems capable of achieving an absolute end to
