Calcium gradients in inner ear endolymph

American Journal of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Medicine and Surgery, 1989
Recent studies suggest that endolymphatic hydrops resulting from the ablation of the endolymphatic duct and sac in guinea pigs may be caused by a disturbance of endolymph calcium homeostasis. A similar disturbance of calcium homeostasis could represent the underlying cause of Ménière's disease.

Calcium transport mechanism in the endolymph of the chinchilla

Hearing Research, 1988
The Ca2+ transport mechanism between endolymph and perilymph was evaluated by the effects of vanadate and amiloride on the endocochlear potential (EP) and the Ca2+ concentration in endolymph using Ca2+-selective microelectrodes. Under normal conditions, the EP was 81.8 +/- 0.9 mV, and the Ca2+ concentrations in endolymph and perilymph were 16.6 +/- 1.3

Alternobaric Effects on the Endolymph

International Journal of Audiology, 1977
Hearing loss and vertigo experienced as a result of environmental pressure change has been the subject of many superficial inquiries. The mechanism of these conditions remains obscure. In human volunteers and a rhesus monkey, the effects of intratympanic as well as ear canal pressure changes on the endolymphatic system were measured using ...

The Secretion and Absorption of Endolymph

Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 1960
In the communication made at the previous meeting of the Collegium in 1958 (Acta oto-laryng., 50, 243, 1959) a demonstration was made of the appearance of radioactive sulphur in the ampullae of the labyrinth of pigeons shortly after the injection of this substance into the bird.

Pharmacokinetics of Furosemide in Endolymph

Auris Nasus Larynx, 1993
To investigate the pharmacokinetics of organic anions in the endolymph of the guinea pig, 100 mg/kg furosemide, an organic anion, was intravenously given to measure the concentration in the cochlear endolymph by high-performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence detection. In the endolymph, the concentration of the furosemide increased slowly for

The flow of endolymph in the semicircular canals

Physics in Medicine & Biology, 1979
The response of the receptors in the semicircular canals to rotary movement of the head is usually described in terms of an ordinary second order differential equation. There are, however, some theoretical objections to this equation and these are examined.

Source and Role of Endolymph Macromolecules

Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 1999
Evaluation of some 200 endolymph proteins indicates that they are predominantly derived from plasma. However, the profile of endolymph proteins is remarkably similar to that of perilymph and entirely different from that of plasma. This supports the current consensus that perilymph rather than plasma is the (direct) source of endolymph.

Sources of endolymph and EP

Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology, 1977
The source of EP and the production of the endolymph are often considered to be at the stria vascularis. However, the significance of Reissner's membrane in maintaining the ionic composition of the endolymph cannot be ruled out. We perfused the entire perilymphatic space of guinea pigs with paraffin oil to determine the effects on the endolymph and ...
