Mechanisms of endolymph secretion.
Kidney international. Supplement, 1998In the inner ear, the membranous labyrinth, a tight heterogeneous sensory epithelium, separates two compartments that are filled with fluids of completely different composition. The lumen of the membranous labyrinth is filled with endolymph, a K-rich, positively polarized fluid, whereas the surrounding spaces are filled with perilymph, with a ...

Disc Electrophoretic Studies of Human Perilymph and Endolymph
Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 1967Results are reported on micro disc electrophoresis performed on 30 perilymph and 30 utricular endolymph specimens. Contamination with dissolved hemoglobin affects both fluids: four almost pure fluid samples show that the cochlear fluid proteins are made up of strong albumin and two weak prealbumin bands.

The source of EP and the production of the endolymph are often considered to be at the stria vascularis. However, the significance of Reissner's membrane in maintaining the ionic composition of the endolymph cannot be ruled out. We perfused the entire perilymphatic space of guinea pigs with paraffin oil to determine the effects on the endolymph and ...

The flow of endolymph in the semicircular canals
Physics in Medicine & Biology, 1979The response of the receptors in the semicircular canals to rotary movement of the head is usually described in terms of an ordinary second order differential equation. There are, however, some theoretical objections to this equation and these are examined.

Cations in the Endolymph With Noise-Induced Deafness
Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1971The endolymphatic Na+and K+changes in response to intense acoustical stimulation were monitored in vivo with cation sensitive glass electrodes in normal and noise-induced deaf guinea pigs to study the effect of destruction of the organ of Corti on endolymphatic cationic changes.
