Modulation of Autophagy Influences the Function and Survival of Human Pancreatic Beta Cells Under Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress Conditions and in Type 2 Diabetes

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2019
Autophagy is the major mechanism involved in degradation and recycling of intracellular components, and its alterations have been proposed to cause beta cell dysfunction.

Pan2‐Pan3 Complex‐Mediated Deadenylation Enforces mRNA Quality Control for Infection of the Rice Blast Fungus

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Discovery that deadenylation, rather than transcription, acts as the rate‐limiting step for developmental timing in a plant pathogen. Evidence that P‐body integrity and mRNA decay are mechanistically coupled to rapid cellular differentiation under environmental stress. Identification of Pan2‐Pan3 as a pathogen‐specific “meta‐virulence factor” absent in

Autophagy Counterbalances Endoplasmic Reticulum Expansion during the Unfolded Protein Response

open access: yesPLoS Biology, 2006
The protein folding capacity of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is regulated by the unfolded protein response (UPR). The UPR senses unfolded proteins in the ER lumen and transmits that information to the cell nucleus, where it drives a transcriptional program that is tailored to re-establish homeostasis.

Cellular Identity Crisis: RD3 Loss Fuels Plasticity and Immune Silence in Progressive Neuroblastoma

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Researchers discovered that therapy‐induced loss of RD3 protein in neuroblastoma triggers a dangerous shift: cancer cells become more stem‐like, invasive, and resistant to treatment while evading immune detection. RD3 loss suppresses antigen presentation and boosts immune checkpoints, creating an immune‐silent environment.

Endoplasmic reticulum stress response pathway-mediated cell death in ovarian cancer

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology
The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is one of the largest organelles, and Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress Response Pathway is a series of responses triggered by the homeostatic imbalance of the ER and the state in which unfolded or misfolded proteins accumulate ...

Natural Variations of ZmRLR1 Mediate the Root Lodging Resistance of Maize by Regulating Root Ascorbate and Auxin Homeostasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Root lodging severely limits crop yield and quality. We reveal that ZmRLR1, a plasma membrane b‐type cytochrome, regulates lodging resistance in maize through dual roles: modulating intracellular redox balance and functioning as a novel component of clathrin‐mediated endocytosis to influence auxin homeostasis. Moreover, natural variations in the ZmRLR1

Autophagy and structural remodeling of organs during prolonged complete fasting

open access: yesМедицина неотложных состояний
Background. Autophagy is a fundamental intracellular degradation mechanism that maintains cellular homeostasis, especially under nutrient deficiency. Fasting induces autophagy, serving as a key component of the adaptive response of cells and tissues to ...

GFP‐LC3 labels organised smooth endoplasmic reticulum membranes independently of autophagy [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Cellular Biochemistry, 2009
AbstractDisruption of autophagy leads to accumulation of intracellular multilamellar inclusions morphologically similar to organised smooth endoplasmic reticulum (OSER) membranes. However, the relation of these membranous compartments to autophagy is unknown.

Xanthatin Targets CISD1 to Drive Ferroptosis and Mitophagy as a Dual Anticancer Strategy in Triple‐Negative Breast Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Triple‐negative breast cancer has a poor prognosis. Xanthatin directly targets and degrades CISD1, triggering ferroptosis through iron dysregulation. The concurrently activated mitophagy synergistically amplifies ferroptotic cell death. Xanthatin also demonstrates potent in vivo anti‐tumor efficacy with minimal toxicity, highlighting its therapeutic ...
