PTP1B targets the endosomal sorting machinery: dephosphorylation of regulatory sites on the endosomal sorting complex required for transport component STAM2.

open access: yesThe Journal of biological chemistry, 2010
Dephosphorylation and endocytic down-regulation are distinct processes that together control the signaling output of a variety of receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs). PTP1B can directly dephosphorylate several RTKs, but it can also promote activation of downstream pathways through largely unknown mechanisms.

Identification of Ypk1 as a Novel Selective Substrate for Nitrogen Starvation-triggered Proteolysis Requiring Autophagy System and Endosomal Sorting Complex Required for Transport (ESCRT) Machinery Components [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2010
Nitrogen starvation-mediated reduction of Ypk1 is suggested to suppress translational initiation, possibly in parallel with the target of rapamycin complex 1 (TORC1) signaling. However, the molecular mechanism that regulates Ypk1 in nitrogen-starved cells is poorly understood.

Liquid Crystalline Inverted Lipid Phases and Reverse Micelles in Drug Delivery: From Molecular Design to Therapeutic Potential

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Liquid crystalline inverted lipid phases and reverse micelles are self‐assembled lipid nanostructures that enhance the solubility, stability, and delivery of diverse therapeutics. This review integrates their physicochemical principles, formulation strategies, drug loading mechanisms, and biomedical applications, highlighting their growing ...

Plasma Membrane-Associated Restriction Factors and Their Counteraction by HIV-1 Accessory Proteins. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The plasma membrane is a site of conflict between host defenses and many viruses. One aspect of this conflict is the host's attempt to eliminate infected cells using innate and adaptive cell-mediated immune mechanisms that recognize features of the ...

PRELIVE: A Framework for Predicting Lipid Nanoparticles In Vivo Efficacy and Reducing Reliance on Animal Testing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
PREdicting LNP In Vivo Efficacy (PRELIVE) framework enables the prediction of lipid nanoparticle (LNPs) organ‐specific delivery through dual modeling approaches. Composition‐based models using formulation parameters and protein corona‐based models using biological fingerprints both achieve high predictive accuracy across multiple organs.

"Alternative" endocytic mechanisms exploited by pathogens: new avenues for therapeutic delivery? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Some pathogens utilize unique routes to enter cells that may evade the intracellular barriers encountered by the typical clathrin-mediated endocytic pathway.

The ATG8 E3-like ligases sense lysosomal damage and initiate ESCRT-mediated membrane repair

open access: yesThe EMBO Journal
After damage from pathogenic, chemical or physical stress, endolysosomal membranes are repaired and resealed by the endosomal sorting complex required for transport (ESCRT) machinery, but how this membrane damage is sensed and translated into ESCRT ...

ESCRT-III is required for scissioning new peroxisomes from the endoplasmic reticulum

open access: yesJournal of Cell Biology, 2018
Dynamic control of peroxisome proliferation is integral to the peroxisome’s many functions. The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) serves as a source of preperoxisomal vesicles (PPVs) that mature into peroxisomes during de novo peroxisome biogenesis and support ...

Mimicking Block Copolymer Self‐Assembly with One‐Pot Synthesized Polyphosphoester Gradient Copolymers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Degradable Polyphosphoester (PPE) gradient copolymers (GCPs) are synthesized via one‐pot copolymerization. We show that GCPs self‐assemble into nanostructures like polymersomes, effectively mimicking the behavior of traditional BCPs. The gradient strength is key, with softer gradients favoring micelles.

Alternate routes to the cell surface underpin insulin-regulated membrane trafficking of GLUT4 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Insulin-stimulated delivery of glucose transporters (GLUT4) from specialized intracellular GLUT4 storage vesicles (GSVs) to the surface of fat and muscle cells is central to whole-body glucose.
