Mycobacterium tuberculosis type VII secretion system effectors differentially impact the ESCRT endomembrane damage response [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Mycobacterium tuberculosis causes tuberculosis, which kills more people than any other infection. M. tuberculosis grows in macrophages, cells that specialize in engulfing and degrading microorganisms.

The open architecture of HD-PTP phosphatase provides new insights into the mechanism of regulation of ESCRT function

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
HD-PTP is a tumour suppressor phosphatase that controls endocytosis, down-regulation of mitogenic receptors and cell migration. Central to its role is the specific recruitment of critical endosomal sorting complexes required for transport (ESCRTs ...

Role of the ESCRT Complexes in Telomere Biology

open access: yesmBio, 2016
Eukaryotic chromosomal ends are protected by telomeres from fusion, degradation, and unwanted double-strand break repair events. Therefore, telomeres preserve genome stability and integrity.

The exocyst complex and Rab5 are required for abscission by localizing ESCRT III subunits to the cytokinetic bridge

open access: yesJournal of Cell Science, 2019
Cytokinesis is the final step of cell division following chromosome segregation that generates two daughter cells. The conserved exocyst complex is required for scission of the intercellular cytokinetic bridge, although the molecular mechanisms it ...

CD207‐Positive Dendritic Cells Promote Emphysema Through CD8+ T Cell Pathway in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
CD207+ dendritic cells (DCs) drive emphysema by promoting CD8⁺ T cell cytotoxicity via Birbeck granule‐dependent MHC‐I antigen presentation. This DC subset is expanded by cigarette smoke‐induced oxidative stress, which triggers granulocyte‐macrophage colony‐stimulating factor (GM‐CSF) release from airway epithelium.

Electron tomography of late stages of FcRn-mediated antibody transcytosis in neonatal rat small intestine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The neonatal Fc receptor (FcRn) transports maternal immunoglobulin (IgG) across epithelia to confer passive immunity to mammalian young. In newborn rodents, FcRn transcytoses IgG from ingested milk across the intestinal epithelium for release into the ...

New component of ESCRT-I regulates endosomal sorting complex assembly

open access: yesJournal of Cell Biology, 2006
The endosomal sorting complex required for transport (ESCRT) complexes play a critical role in receptor down-regulation and retroviral budding. Although the crystal structures of two ESCRT complexes have been determined, the molecular mechanisms ...

Platelet Rubicon Bidirectional Regulation of GPVI and Integrin αIIbβ3 Signaling Mitigates Stroke Infarction Without Compromising Hemostasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies Rubicon as a key platelet protein that bidirectionally regulates GPVI and integrin αIIbβ3 signaling. Platelet Rubicon protects against cerebral ischemia‐reperfusion injury by limiting infarction without increasing hemorrhage.

BLOC-2 targets recycling endosomal tubules to melanosomes for cargo delivery. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Hermansky-Pudlak syndrome (HPS) is a group of disorders characterized by the malformation of lysosome-related organelles, such as pigment cell melanosomes.

Host ESCRT Proteins Are Required for Bromovirus RNA Replication Compartment Assembly and Function

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2015
Positive-strand RNA viruses genome replication invariably is associated with vesicles or other rearranged cellular membranes. Brome mosaic virus (BMV) RNA replication occurs on perinuclear endoplasmic reticulum (ER) membranes in ~70 nm vesicular ...
