The Longevity of Thermoactinomycete Endospores in Natural Substrates
Journal of Applied Bacteriology, 1977Occupational debris from beneath the Roman fort Vindolanda, and lake sediments cored from Seamere in East Anglia were examined for the presence of viable Thermoactinomyces endospores. Up to 104 viable endospores/g dry wt were recovered from the occupational debris at Vindolanda deposited between 1850 to 1890 years ago.

2012 Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 2012Rapid detection and identification of endospores presents a range of complex challenges. Dynamic staining approach, developed in our lab, utilizes the time-course fluorescence enhancement of an amyloid-staining dye, Thioflavin T (ThT), after mixing with intact endospores.
