Endothelial cell loss in intraocular lens placement
American Intra-Ocular Implant Society Journal, 1978Endothelial cell counts were done on eyes selected to fall into four categories: unoperated, intracapsular cataract extraction without implantation, and intracapsular cataract extraction with easy or difficult insertion of an intraocular implant. Uncomplicated cataract extraction resulted in less than 9% cell loss.

Effect of trabeculectomy on corneal endothelial cell loss
British Journal of Ophthalmology, 2019AimTo investigate changes in corneal endothelial cell density (CECD) after trabeculectomy.MethodsThis prospective, observational study followed 117 eyes of 117 patients for 2 years after trabeculectomy. The central cornea was examined by corneal specular microscopy prior to and at every 6 months after the surgery.

Graft failure: I. Endothelial cell loss
International Ophthalmology, 2007Graft failure through endothelial cell loss is a constant threat throughout the lifetime of a corneal graft. It can occur at various time points after transplantation. Primary graft failure has nowadays become increasingly rare owing to meticulous eye banking methods and improved surgical techniques.

Corneal Endothelial Cell Loss Following Trephination
Ophthalmic Surgery, Lasers and Imaging Retina, 1988ABSTRACT The amount of endothelial cell loss that occurs to the donor cornea during the trephination process was evaluated in 40 porcine eyes. A vital staining technique (alizarin red S and acid violet 19) was used to quantify the extent of endothelial damage and removal.

Endothelial cell loss after pars plana vitrectomy
Czech and Slovak Ophthalmology, 2021Aims: To analyse the changes in endothelial cell density (ECD) after pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) and to identify the factors implicated. Patients and Methods: This was a prospective, consecutive, and non-randomised, case-control study. All 23-gauge vitrectomies were performed by a single surgeon at a tertiary centre.

Precision of Cell Density Estimates and Endothelial Cell Loss With Age
Archives of Ophthalmology, 1985The precision of estimating endothelial cell density of the cornea, using a noncontact method of specular microscopy, was assessed by asking eight individuals with known densities in one operated-on and one unoperated-on eye to have photography on two occasions in the same day.

Loss of TLR4 in endothelial cells but not Müller cells protects the diabetic retina
Experimental Eye Research, 2021Others have previously reported that global loss of toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) reduced retinal inflammation. To determine cell specific actions of TLR4 in the retina, we generated diabetic endothelial cell specific and Müller cell specific TLR4 knockout mice.

To determine when corneal transplants develop the decreased endothelial cell density that predisposes to late endothelial failure (LEF).Noted cohort study within a prospective case series. The authors compared 21 grafts that developed LEF with the remaining transplants (controls) in a longitudinal cohort study of 500 consecutive penetrating ...

Corneal Endothelial Cell Loss Induced by Air Bags
Ophthalmology, 1993Although the automobile air bag is a safety device used to protect drivers from death and moderate-to-severe injury, recently it also has been reported to be associated with some ophthalmic injuries. The authors have encountered a case in which a normal air bag may have caused a driver's corneal endothelial cell loss.

Loss of eNOS in Endothelial Cells Promotes Proliferation
The FASEB Journal, 2022Background Endothelial cells help maintain vascular homeostasis mainly by balancing interplay between vasorelaxation and vasoconstriction via regulating availability of Nitric Oxide (NO). Endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) is one of three NOS isoforms that catalyses the synthesis of NO to regulate ...
