We identified adaptor protein ShcD as upregulated in triple‐negative breast cancer and found its expression to be correlated with reduced patient survival and increased invasion in cell models. Using a proteomic screen, we identified novel ShcD binding partners involved in EGFR signaling pathways.

In the bone marrow, dendritic cell development is governed by supporting cells, such as endothelial cells. Here authors show that expression of serine/threonine kinase 11 in endothelial cells regulates differentiation of dendritic cell precursors via ...

Tumor endothelial cells have features of adult stem cells [PDF]
We recently reported that prostate tumor-specific endothelial cells had features of mesenchymal stem cells and could transdifferentiate to form cartilage and bone-like tissues. Plasticity in the tumor vasculature may be related to well-known tumor blood vessel abnormalities and could underlie an intrinsic adaptive mechanism in tumor endothelial cells ...

Dual targeting of AKT and mTOR using MK2206 and RAD001 reduces tumor burden in an intracardiac colon cancer circulating tumor cell xenotransplantation model. Analysis of AKT isoform‐specific knockdowns in CTC‐MCC‐41 reveals differentially regulated proteins and phospho‐proteins by liquid chromatography coupled mass spectrometry. Circulating tumor cells

Cancer stem cell-vascular endothelial cell interactions in glioblastoma
Glioblastoma (GBM), a higher grade glial tumor, is highly aggressive, therapy resistant and often shows poor patient prognosis due to frequent recurrence. These features of GBM are attributed to presence of a significantly smaller proportion of glioma stem cells (GSCs) that are endowed with self-renewal ability, multi-potent nature and show resistance ...

Systematic profiling of cancer‐fibroblast interactions reveals drug combinations in ovarian cancer
Fibroblasts, cells in the tumor environment, support ovarian cancer cell growth and alter morphology and drug response. We used fibroblast and cancer cell co‐culture models to test 528 drugs and discovered new drugs for combination treatment. We showed that adding Vorinostat or Birinapant to standard chemotherapy may improve drug response, suggesting ...

Endothelial cells maintain neural stem cells quiescent in their niche [PDF]
Niches are specialized microenvironments that regulate stem cells' activity. The neural stem cell (NSC) niche defines a zone in which NSCs are retained and produce new cells of the nervous system throughout life. Understanding the signaling mechanisms by which the niche controls the NSC fate is crucial for the success of clinical applications.

Functional Characterization of Embryonic Stem Cell-Derived Endothelial Cells [PDF]
Endothelial cells (EC) derived from embryonic stem cells (ESC) require additional functional characterization before they are used as a cell therapy in order to enhance their potential for engraftment and proliferation. We explore several physiologically relevant functions of ESC-derived EC (ESC-EC), such as its capacity to produce nitric oxide (NO ...
