Fat taste sensitivity in women with obesity: transcriptomic analysis of fungiform papillae before and after bariatric surgery

open access: yesObesity, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Fat taste sensitivity has been implicated in long‐term weight loss after bariatric surgery. Unexpectedly, improvement of orosensory fat acuity was not systematic in operated patients. Methods Obesity‐induced alterations of gene expression in gustatory papillae having been recently reported, we have explored the fungiform ...

An Up‐to‐Date Review of Traditional Chinese Medicine in the Treatment of Atherosclerosis: Components, Mechanisms, and Therapeutic Potentials

open access: yesPhytotherapy Research, EarlyView.
Traditional Chinese medicine in atherosclerosis: multi‐target modulation of pathogenesis. ABSTRACT Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease and a major global health concern. In recent years, traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs) have demonstrated multi‐target therapeutic potential against atherosclerosis by modulating inflammatory responses ...

The Prevalence and Severity of Pain in Patients With Systemic Sclerosis

open access: yesThe Journal of Dermatology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We investigated pain prevalence and severity in systemic sclerosis (SSc) and patient–physician perceptions. This was an internet‐based survey that compared perceptions of pain type, location, severity, associated factors between patients with SSc and physicians, and pain treatment prescription patterns in Japan in March 2023.

Cardiovascular Plasticity and Adaptation of High‐Altitude Birds and Mammals

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
This schematic depicts the cardiovascular adaptations of mammals and birds to high‐altitude hypoxia. It highlights key phenotypic changes in oxygen transport and cardiac responses, driven by molecular mechanisms including transcriptional regulation and genetic modifications.

Prenatal alcohol exposure worsens acute but not long‐term cognitive outcomes due to stroke in middle‐aged Sprague–Dawley rat offspring

open access: yesAlcohol, Clinical and Experimental Research, EarlyView.
Adults with prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE) are at increased risk for metabolic, immune, and cardiovascular disease. Little is known about the contribution of PAE to cerebrovascular disease, specifically during middle age, a time when stroke incidence and severity typically increase.

Voiding symptom severity varies independently from non-adrenergic prostate smooth muscle contractions in patients undergoing surgery for benign prostatic hyperplasia

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology
BackgroundResistance of voiding symptoms to α1-blockers in benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) has been provisionally explained by non-adrenergic prostate smooth muscle contraction. Here, we examined relationships between contractions and voiding symptoms

Human hypoxia models in aerospace medicine: Potential applications for human pharmacological research

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Aerospace medicine required controlled terrestrial models to investigate influences of altered atmosphere conditions, such as hypoxia, on human health and performance. These models could potentially be expanded to encompass disease conditions or treatment targets regulated through hypoxia or hypercapnia.
