The therapeutic role of exercise training during menopause for reducing vascular disease

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, Volume 111, Issue 6, Page 2813-2827, 1 June 2026.
Abstract Menopause marks a major milestone in female reproductive ageing. It is characterized by the cessation of ovarian function and a concomitant decline in hormones such as oestradiol. Subsequently, females undergoing menopausal transition experience a progressive increase in cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease risk.

ESM‐1 and GBP‐1 are associated with endothelial dysfunction: emerging biomarkers or key players in the pathophysiology of preeclampsia?

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, Volume 604, Issue 11, Page 4482-4496, 1 June 2026.
Abstract figure legend Endothelial specific molecule‐1 (ESM‐1) and guanylate binding protein‐1 (GBP‐1) are proteins that are produced by activated/dysfunctional endothelial cells and are increased and decreased, respectively, during preeclampsia. It remains to be established whether ESM‐1 and GBP‐1 could potentially be included as biomarkers for the ...

Excessive hypercholesterolaemia during pregnancy as a risk factor for endothelial dysfunction in pre‐eclampsia

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, Volume 604, Issue 11, Page 4302-4317, 1 June 2026.
Abstract figure legend Excessive hypercholesterolaemia during pregnancy impairs maternal endothelial function, which, in turn, drives the development of pre‐eclampsia and may also contribute to the increased risk of later‐life cardiovascular disease in women.

Pituitary Neurolobectomy induces sustained hypotension in male Wistar rats and normalizes blood pressure in male spontaneously hypertensive rats

open access: yesPhysiological Reports, Volume 14, Issue 11, June 2026.
Abstract Arginine vasopressin is primarily recognized as an osmoregulatory hormone; however, its contribution to vascular tone and blood pressure regulation under basal and hypertensive conditions remains debated. This study examined the effects of vasopressin deficiency induced by neurointermediate pituitary lobectomy in Wistar and spontaneously ...
