Impact of APOE ε4 Genotype Load on Cognitive Function and Lipid Metabolism in Patients With Cerebral Small Vessel Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Apolipoprotein ε4 (APOE ε4) is a potent genetic risk factor for Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, its role in cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) remains unclear. Given the clinical and pathological similarities between CSVD and AD, this study aimed to investigate the associations of APOE ε4 gene dosage with cognitive function and

Impact of Stress‐Induced Hyperglycemia on In‐Hospital Medical Complications in Patients With Acute Stroke: From a Large‐Scale Nationwide Longitudinal Registry

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aims This study aimed to explore the relationship between stress‐induced hyperglycemia (SIH) and in‐hospital medical complications in patients with acute stroke. Methods We enrolled 865,765 patients with acute stroke from the Chinese Stroke Center Alliance cohort.

Ruthenium Complex Improves the Endothelial Function in Aortic Rings From Hypertensive Rats

open access: yesArquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia
Background: The endothelium is a monolayer of cells that extends on the vascular inner surface, responsible for the modulation of vascular tone. By means of the release of nitric oxide (NO), the endothelium has an important protective function against ...

Treatment of denture-related stomatitis improves endothelial function assessed by flow-mediated vascular dilation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Introduction: The presence of oral inflammation has recently been linked with the pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases. While numerous studies have described links between periodontitis and endothelial dysfunction, little is known about the influence ...

Serum soluble mediator signatures of lupus nephritis: histological features and response to treatment

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective Lupus nephritis (LN) management remains challenging, and novel noninvasive biomarkers are needed. This study quantified serum soluble mediators in the Accelerating Medicines Partnership (AMP) LN cohort to identify biomarkers of histological features and treatment response.

LIN28B Promotes Cancer Cell Dissemination and Angiogenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
Children diagnosed with high‐risk neuroblastoma have a 5‐year event‐free survival rate of less than 50% and poor outcomes after recurrence. Deregulation of the LIN28B oncogene can be addressed in these patients. Upregulation of LIN28B is shown to support the metastatic cascade.

Hypoxia, vascular smooth muscles and endothelium

open access: yesActa Pharmaceutica Sinica B, 2013
Hypoxia, or the lack of oxygen, has multiple impacts on the vascular system. The major molecular sensors for hypoxia at the cellular level are hypoxia inducible factor and heme oxygenase.

3D In Vitro Models of Breast Cancer: Current Challenges and Future Prospects Toward Recapitulating the Microenvironment and Mimicking Key Processes

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
In vitro cancer models are advantageous for studying important processes such as tumorigenesis, cancer growth, invasion, and metastasis. The complexity and biological relevance increase depending on the model structure, organization, and composition of materials and cells.

Cardiovascular ephrinB2 function is essential for embryonic angiogenesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
EphrinB2, a transmembrane ligand of EphB receptor tyrosine kinases, is specifically expressed in arteries. In ephrinB2 mutant embryos, there is a complete arrest of angiogenesis.

VASCULAR ENDOTHELIUM AND DIABETES

open access: yesJournal of smooth muscle research Japanese section, 2004
Vascular deterioration is one of the complicating features of human and experimental diabetes. Some of the vascular changes in diabetes are related to alterations in endothelial function. In this regard, the vascular responsiveness to endothelium-dependent relaxant agents has been extensively investigated in human and animal models of diabetes ...
