Investigating the cell of origin and novel molecular targets in Merkel cell carcinoma: a historic misnomer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study indicates that Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) does not originate from Merkel cells, and identifies gene, protein & cellular expression of immune‐linked and neuroendocrine markers in primary and metastatic Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) tumor samples, linked to Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) status, with enrichment of B‐cell and other immune cell

A multiplex endpoint RT-PCR assay for quality assessment of RNA extracted from formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissues

open access: yesBMC Biotechnology, 2010
Background RNA extracted from formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) samples is chemically modified and degraded, which compromises its use in gene expression studies.

Gut microbiota diversity is prognostic in metastatic hormone receptor‐positive breast cancer patients receiving chemotherapy and immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this exploratory study, we investigated the relationship between the gut microbiota and outcome in patients with metastatic hormone receptor‐positive breast cancer, treated in a randomized clinical trial with chemotherapy alone or chemotherapy in combination with immune checkpoint blockade.

Determination of Trace Amounts of Hydrofluoric Acid in Non-Aqueous Solutions by the Coulometric Titration Method

open access: yesSensors, 2018
For monitoring of trace amounts of hydrofluoric acid in the organic fluorine chemical industry, a facile method for determination of the hydrofluoric acid in an ethanol solution of lithium chloride, by coulometric titration, was proposed.

A synthetic benzoxazine dimer derivative targets c‐Myc to inhibit colorectal cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Benzoxazine dimer derivatives bind to the bHLH‐LZ region of c‐Myc, disrupting c‐Myc/MAX complexes, which are evaluated from SAR analysis. This increases ubiquitination and reduces cellular c‐Myc. Impairing DNA repair mechanisms is shown through proteomic analysis.

Discriminating Electroweak-ino Parameter Ordering at the LHC and Its Impact on LFV Studies

open access: yes, 2009
Current limit on the dark matter relic abundance may suggest that $|\mu|$ should be smaller than prediction in the minimal supergravity scenario (mSUGRA) for moderate $m_0$ and $m_{1/2}$. The electroweak-ino parameter $M_1, M_2$ and $|\mu|$ are then much

Adaptaquin is selectively toxic to glioma stem cells through disruption of iron and cholesterol metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Adaptaquin selectively kills glioma stem cells while sparing differentiated brain cells. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses show Adaptaquin disrupts iron and cholesterol homeostasis, with iron chelation amplifying cytotoxicity via cholesterol depletion, mitochondrial dysfunction, and elevated reactive oxygen species.

The status of |Vub|

open access: yes, 2004
I survey the theoretical and experimental information available for determination of |Vub| with inclusive and exclusive techniques. Using recent experimental and theoretical advances, I outline a procedure in which the inclusive information can be ...

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

An AIE-active probe acts as novel tool for rapid and accurate quantitative antifungal susceptibility assessment

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology
ObjectivesCommon antifungal susceptibility testing methods are often time-consuming and subject to interpretation bias in endpoint determination, making them inadequate for clinical applications. We aim to develop a rapid and accurate quantitative method
