Macroscopic Traffic State Estimation: Understanding Traffic Sensing Data‐Based Estimation Errors

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Transportation, Volume 2017, Issue 1, 2017., 2017
Traffic state estimation is a crucial element in traffic management systems and in providing traffic information to road users. In this article, we evaluate traffic sensing data‐based estimation error characteristics in macroscopic traffic state estimation. We consider two types of sensing data, that is, loop‐detector data and probe speed data.

Delineation of risk area in Log pod Mangartom due to debris flows from the Stoze landslide [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The paper shows in detail the case of delineation of risk area in the village of Log pod Mangartom in the Koritnica River valley due to possible debris flows that might in future be triggered on the Stoze slope above the Mangart Mountain pasture.

Assessing the Effects of Biodiesel Production on Sustainability: A Bayesian Two‐Stage Data Envelopment Analysis Approach

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Sustainable development transforms production systems, requiring integrated environmental, social, and economic strategies. Energy systems are key agro‐industrial supply chains in developing countries. Brazil's soybean supply chain impacts Gross Domestic Product, mainly through exports.

Ultrarelativistic Spinning Particle and a Rotating Body in External Fields

open access: yesAdvances in High Energy Physics, Volume 2016, Issue 1, 2016., 2016
We use the vector model of spinning particle to analyze the influence of spin‐field coupling on the particle’s trajectory in ultrarelativistic regime. The Lagrangian with minimal spin‐gravity interaction yields the equations equivalent to the Mathisson‐Papapetrou‐Tulczyjew‐Dixon (MPTD) equations of a rotating body. We show that they have unsatisfactory

Farmland trees and integrated pest management: A review of current knowledge and developing strategies for sustainable systems

open access: yesEcological Solutions and Evidence, Volume 6, Issue 3, July–September 2025.
Conceptual figure representing the three topics assessed in this review. Components include the crops, invertebrates, and trees and their arrangements. Interactions refer to the dynamic relationships between these components and management interventions. Opportunities include the measuring, promotion, better use of resources, research and demonstration

On Prigogine′s approaches to irreversibility: a case study by the baker map

open access: yesDiscrete Dynamics in Nature and Society, Volume 2004, Issue 1, Page 251-272, 2004., 2004
The baker map is investigated by two different theories of irreversibility by Prigogine and his colleagues, namely, the Λ‐transformation and complex spectral theories, and their structures are compared. In both theories, the evolution operator U† of observables (the Koopman operator) is found to acquire dissipativity by restricting observables to an ...

A Lesson in Success: The Calonne Trench Raid, 17 January 1917 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The Allied armies slugged it out on the Western front for nearly four years before finally achieving the breakout sought since November 1914. The four-division strong Canadian Corps led this “spearhead to victory.” Its commander was Lieutenant-General ...

What is the potential for artificial selection of insect biological control traits? A systematic review of their genetic variation, heritability, and evolvability

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, Volume 173, Issue 6, Page 463-497, June 2025.
Growing interest in optimizing biocontrol traits, particularly due to Nagoya Protocol constraints, necessitates understanding their heritability and genetic variation. This systematic review of 5209 studies on arthropod biocontrol agents yielded 94 relevant articles, with 42 providing heritability values.
