Surge current and electron swarm tunnel tests of thermal blanket and ground strap materials [PDF]

open access: yes, 1977
The results are described of a series of current conduction tests with a thermal control blanket to which grounding straps have been attached. The material and the ground strap attachment procedure are described. The current conduction tests consisted of

Multi-variable port Hamiltonian model of piezoelectric material [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
In this paper, the dynamics of a piezoelectric material is presented within the new framework of multi-variable distributed port Hamiltonian systems. This class of infinite dimensional system is quite general, thus allowing the description of several ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Nonequilibrium Casimir-Polder plasmonic interactions

open access: yes, 2016
We investigate how the combination of nonequilibrium effects and material properties impacts on the Casimir-Polder interaction between an atom and a surface.

First-principles anisotropic constitutive relationships in β-cyclotetramethylene tetranitramine (β-HMX) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
First-principles density functional theory calculations have been performed to obtain constitutive relationships in the crystalline energetic material β-cyclotetramethylene tetranitramine (β-HMX). In addition to hydrostatic loading, uniaxial compressions

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Crystal structure of 3,3′-biisoxazole-5,5′-bis(methylene) dinitrate (BIDN)

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E: Crystallographic Communications, 2017
The molecular structure of the title energetic compound, C8H6N4O8, is composed of two planar isoxazole rings and two near planar alkyl-nitrate groups (r.m.s deviation = 0.006 Å).

Understanding the interaction between energetic ions and freestanding graphene towards practical 2D perforation

open access: yes, 2016
We report experimentally and theoretically the behavior of freestanding graphene subject to bombardment of energetic ions, investigating the ability of large-scale patterning of freestanding graphene with nanometer sized features by focused ion beam ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Ti/CuO and Ti/CuO/Cellulose Nitrate Nanothermites: An Early Insight into Their Combustion Mechanism

open access: yesEnergies
Most nanothermite compositions utilise Al as a fuel, due to its low cost, high reactivity and availability. Nevertheless, aluminothermites exhibit high ignition temperature and low active metal content.
