Chagas disease induces gut microbial metabolic stress: Disruption of energy and nucleotide pathways and partial reversal by antiparasitic therapy (TRIPOBIOME-2 study)

open access: yesTravel Medicine and Infectious Disease
Chagas disease (CD) can alter gut microbiota composition, although its functional impact is poorly defined. We conducted whole-genome metagenomic sequencing of stool samples from 55 adults with chronic CD (23 treated with benznidazole) and 17 non ...

Blood–Brain Barrier Regulation: Evolving From Classic Strategies to Electrochemical Ion and Reactive Oxygen Species Control

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Conventional therapies suffer from poor blood–brain barrier (BBB) penetration and disordered ion/reactive oxygen species (ROS) homeostasis, hindering precise neurological treatment. Electrochemical strategies achieve accurate spatiotemporal regulation of neural homeostasis.

Zero energy homes: Combining energy efficiency and solar energy technologies

open access: yes, 2000
In a typical Florida house, air-conditioning accounts for about 35% of all the electricity the home uses. As the largest single source of energy consumption in Florida, a home's air-conditioning load represents the biggest energy challenge facing Florida

Computed Tomography‐ and Photoacoustic Imaging‐Active Bioresorbable Electrospun Bismuth Nanoparticle‐Infused Small‐Diameter Vascular Grafts

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A polymeric graft loaded with radiopaque bismuth nanoparticles is expected to undergo gradual polymer resorption and nanoparticle release. This design enables noninvasive, multimodal monitoring of device integrity, patency, and degradation using computed tomography alongside ultrasound and photoacoustic imaging over 12 weeks.

Effects of Supplementation with Essential Fatty Acids and Conjugated Linoleic Acids on Muscle Structure and Fat Deposition in Lactating Holstein Cows

open access: yesAgriculture
High-yielding dairy cows need diets that meet their energy demand and contain sufficient essential nutrients such as n-3 fatty acids (FAs). Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) is able to relieve the energy metabolism, but common corn silage and concentrate ...

Lignin Mimicking Protein Methylation Augments the Efficacy of FOLFOX Chemotherapy by Anchoring Thymidylate Synthase

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Lignin‐mimicking protein methylation can enhance the efficacy and mitigate the toxicity of the classic FOLFOX chemotherapy regimen. ABSTRACT FOLFOX has served as the standard chemotherapy regimen for advanced stages, specifically in the treatment of pancreatic, colorectal, and bladder cancers.
