Detailed X-ray spectroscopy of the magnetar 1E 2259+586 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Magnetic field geometry is expected to play a fundamental role in magnetar activity. The discovery of a phase-variable absorption feature in the X-ray spectrum of SGR 0418+5729, interpreted as cyclotron resonant scattering, suggests the presence of very ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Crashworthiness behavior of fiberglass tube subjected to axial load

open access: yesKKU Engineering Journal, 2014
This research is purposed to study crashworthiness behavior of fiberglass tube subjected axial compression. The specimens are made of fiberglass and hand lay-up in different ply angles which are; specimen A ply angle is [(0/90)/(0/90)/(0/90)] specimen B ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Semi-empirical relationship for the energy absorption buildup factor in some biological samples [PDF]

open access: yesNuclear Technology and Radiation Protection, 2016
Energy absorption buildup factors in the energy range of 0.2 MeV to 2 MeV using a geometric progression fitting approximation in some selected essential amino acids, fatty acids and carbohydrate molecules have been obtained.

Electromagnetic energy within a magnetic infinite cylinder and scattering properties for oblique incidence

open access: yes, 2010
In this work we analytically calculate the time-averaged electromagnetic energy stored inside a nondispersive magnetic isotropic cylinder which is obliquely irradiated by an electromagnetic plane wave.

Crash Box Impact Energy Absorption

open access: yesInternational Journal for Research in Applied Science and Engineering Technology, 2023
Abstract: Crashworthiness parameters like internal energy absorption and crush force efficiency are the key constants in evaluating the component crashworthiness and its safety in the design of automotive structures for crashworthiness, there is an immense requirement for null strain sub modules that provide a rigid room of survival area for the ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Reliability Analysis of Collision Energy Absorption for Anti-climber Devices Based on Improved Sum of Sine Surrogate Model

open access: yesChengshi guidao jiaotong yanjiu
Objective To reasonably evaluate the energy absorption reliability index of anti-climber devices, a reliability analysis method based on ISSSM (improved sinusoidal and surrogate model) is proposed.
