Materials selection of steam-phase change material (PCM) heat exchanger for thermal energy storage systems in direct steam generation facilities

open access: yes, 2017
Publisher Copyright: © 2016 Elsevier B.V.Phase change materials (PCM) is one of the most interesting solutions to be used in thermal energy storage (TES) systems for direct steam generation (DSG) thermosolar facilities.

Phonon-mediated high-temperature superconductivity in clathrate superhydride ThCeH18 under pressure

open access: yesScientific Reports
Predicting high-temperature superconductivity in hydrogen-rich dense metallic states under pressure remains a significant challenge. The discovery of new phases of metal hydrides is vital for advancing this area of research.

CCDC80 suppresses high‐grade serous ovarian cancer migration via negative regulation of B7‐H3

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PAX8 is a lineage‐specific master regulator of transcription in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSC) progression. We show for the first time that PAX8 facilitates proliferation and metastasis by repressing the cell autonomous tumor suppressor CCDC80 and inducing B7‐H3 expression.

Are the energy states still energy states? [PDF]

open access: yes
Traditional energy states managed to avoid the early stages of the recent national recession, buoyed by record high crude oil and natural gas prices. Both production and exploration for crude oil and natural gas expanded rapidly in response to the spike ...

Comparison of Projections to Actual Performance in the DOE-EPRI Wind Turbine Verification Program [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
As part of the US Department of Energy/Electric Power Research Institute (DOE-EPRI) Wind Turbine Verification Program (TVP), Global Energy Concepts (GEC) worked with participating utilities to develop a set of performance projections for their projects ...

Thermodynamic stability of Fe/O solid solution at inner-core conditions

open access: yes, 2000
We present a new technique which allows the fully ab initio calculation of the chemical potential of a substitutional impurity in a high-temperature crystal, including harmonic and anharmonic lattice vibrations.

Heterozygous loss‐of‐function alleles associate the conserved 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease EXOSC10 with hypersensitivity to the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

Objective Method for Selecting Outdoor Reporting Conditions for Photovoltaic Performance [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Outdoor performance of photovoltaic modules and systems depends on prevailing conditions at the time of measurement. Outdoor test conditions must be relevant to device performance and readily attainable.
