Conservation of Energy is Relevant to Physicalism [PDF]
I argue against Barbara Montero's claim that Conservation of Energy has nothing to do with physicalism. I reject her reconstruction of the argument for physicalism from CoE, and offer an alternative reconstruction that better captures the intuitions of ...

Significance Acetogenic bacteria are the most primordial living organisms. They can live solely on inorganic compounds by using carbon monoxide or molecular hydrogen as energy sources to fix carbon dioxide to acetate and rely on a chemiosmotic mechanism ...

The Caenorhabditis elegans DPF‐3 and human DPP4 have tripeptidyl peptidase activity
The dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPPIV) family comprises serine proteases classically defined by their ability to remove dipeptides from the N‐termini of substrates, a feature that gave the family its name. Here, we report the discovery of a previously unrecognized tripeptidyl peptidase activity in DPPIV family members from two different species.

Wavefunction Collapse and Conservation Laws [PDF]
It is emphasized that the collapse postulate of standard quantum theory can violate conservation of energy-momentum and there is no indication from where the energy-momentum comes or to where it goes. Likewise, in the Continuous Spontaneous Localization (

How energy conservation limits our measurements
Observations in Quantum Mechanics are subject to complex restrictions arising from the principle of energy conservation. Determining such restrictions, however, has been so far an elusive task, and only partial results are known. In this paper we discuss

On the Conservation of Cross Helicity and Wave Action in Solar-Wind Models with Non-WKB Alfven Wave Reflection [PDF]
The interaction between Alfven-wave turbulence and the background solar wind affects the cross helicity in two ways. Non-WKB reflection converts outward-propagating Alfven waves into inward-propagating Alfven waves and vice versa, and the turbulence ...

Making the smart meter social promotes long-term energy conservation
Managing demand for energy is becoming increasingly important for efforts to shift toward more sustainable lifestyles. Managing demand for energy involves changes in human behaviour, and can be achieved through more efficient uses of technology, and ...

Molecular bases of circadian magnesium rhythms across eukaryotes
Circadian rhythms in intracellular [Mg2+] exist across eukaryotic kingdoms. Central roles for Mg2+ in metabolism suggest that Mg2+ rhythms could regulate daily cellular energy and metabolism. In this Perspective paper, we propose that ancestral prokaryotic transport proteins could be responsible for mediating Mg2+ rhythms and posit a feedback model ...
