Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.

Effects of Conjugation and Aromaticity on the Sulfoxide Bond1

open access: yes, 2016
An ab initio computational study on a series of sulfoxides is reported. The SO bond dissociation energy (BDE) of sulfoxides in which the sulfur atom is included in a formally aromatic ring (e.g., thiophene sulfoxide) is found to be decreased by as much ...

Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

Pairwise energy effects of rings in benzo-annelated perylenes

open access: yes, 2009
DFT calculations have been used to corroborate two regularities resulting from the analysis of cyclic conjugation in benzo-annelated perylenes reported earlier, viz., (a) the annelation of a benzene ring in angular position increases the extent of ...

Cyclic conjugation in terminally bent and branched phenylenes

open access: yes, 2001
678-681Cyclic conjugation in terminally bent and branched phenylenes is studied by means of the effect that individual cycles have on total π-electron energy. These energy-effects are computed by a molecular-orbital approach. The hexagonal squeezes of

Mass spectrometry based identification of AMP‐O‐Tris generated by Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Isolated Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10 generates the noncanonical ATP‐derived product AMP‐O‐Tris while in Tris‐containing buffer as identified via mass spectrometry, revealing relaxed nucleophile selectivity under isolated conditions. These findings suggest that multiprotein Csm complex assembly restricts Cas10 reactivity toward canonical cyclic ...

Acute caffeine treatment protects the developing retina from ischemia‐induced cell death

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Caffeine reduces cell death in the developing retina under ischemia (OGD). This effect does not involve BDNF upregulation or antioxidant pathways (NRF2/VEGF). Neuroprotection occurs mainly through adenosine A2A receptor antagonism, decreasing glutamate release and excitotoxicity, highlighting caffeine's potential as an acute neuroprotective agent in ...

Original scientific paper Cyclic conjugation in benzo-annelated triphenylenes

open access: yes, 2009
: Cyclic conjugation in benzo-annelated triphenylenes was studied by means of the energy effect (ef) and the π-electron content (EC) of the six--membered rings.

O-glucosyltransferases in wheat (triticum aeshvum) and the competing weed black-grass (alopecurus myosuroides) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The glucosylation of xenobiotics, catalysed by UDP-glucose dependent O-Glucosyltransferases (OGTs), is a major route of pesticide metabolism in wheat {Triticum aestivum L.).

UiO‐66 metal–organic frameworks in biomedicine: From structural tunability to bioimaging, photodiagnostics, and photodynamic cancer therapy

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
UiO‐66(Zr) metal–organic frameworks are chemically stable, biocompatible, and highly tunable nanomaterials. Their modular structure enables controlled drug delivery, multimodal bioimaging, and light‐activated photodynamic therapy, supporting integrated diagnostic and therapeutic (theranostic) applications in cancer and biomedical research.
