A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Scientific Opinion on the energy conversion factor of d‐tagatose for labelling purposes

open access: yesEFSA Journal, 2016
Following a request from the European Commission, the EFSA Panel on Dietetic Products, Nutrition and Allergies (NDA) was asked to deliver a scientific opinion on the energy conversion factor of d‐tagatose to be used for calculating the energy value of ...

Towards an Energy Labelling of Pressurized Water Networks

open access: yesProcedia Engineering, 2014
AbstractPressurized Water Systems (PWS) is a key part of a drinking water supply service. Irrigation – the greatest water consumer – is shifting to PWS, making them a vital part of irrigation communities. PWS are energy-hungry. As population grows, water demand (for urban use and for irrigation) rises, and PWS require more energy (4% of total Europe ...

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Changes in energy content of menu items at out-of-home food outlets in England after calorie labelling policy implementation: a pre–post analysis (2021–2022)

open access: yesBMJ Public Health
Introduction Eating from out-of-home food outlets (OHFO) is common and linked to poor dietary quality, weight gain and obesity. In response, England implemented mandatory calorie labelling regulations in April 2022.

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.
