Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Potential of Gas-Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) Methods for High-Viscosity Oil: A Core Study from a Kazakhstani Reservoir

open access: yesEnergies
At present, various advanced technologies for field development based on gas-enhanced oil recovery (EOR) methods are widely applied worldwide. These include high-pressure gas injection (hydrocarbon gases, nitrogen, flue gases), water-alternating-gas (WAG)

A Review on the Internalization of Externalities in Electricity Generation Expansion Planning

open access: yesEnergies, 2023
This work addresses the internalization of externalities in energy decision making and in generation expansion planning (GEP). Although the linkage between externalities and energy is well recognized, the issue of the internalization in GEP models and ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Experimental analysis of the effect of pitch angle on the performance of a Darrieus vertical-axis wind turbine [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences
The demand for sustainable energy solutions has driven increased interest in vertical-axis wind turbines (VAWTs), which offer several advantages over horizontal-axis devices.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Building energy modeling at neighborhood scale

open access: yesEnergy Efficiency, 2020
The urban climate and outdoor air quality of cities that have a positive thermal balance depending on the thermal consumptions of buildings cause an increase of the urban heat island and global warming effects. The aim of this work has been to develop an

Heat Transfer of Crude Waxy Oil with Yield Stress in a Pipe

open access: yesEnergies
This article is devoted to the study of heat exchange of a heated flow of waxy oil in a pipe. Heat exchange between the waxy oil flow and the surrounding environment decreases the oil temperature and sharply increases the rheological properties.

Performance and Emission Analysis of Hydrogen-Enriched Palm Biodiesel Blends in a Diesel Generator [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences
This work investigates how combining palm oil biodiesel-diesel blends with hydrogen affects the performance and emissions of a single-cylinder diesel generator. The generator ran at 3000 rpm with loads up to 4 kW.
