The Engineering of Climate Engineering

Annual Review of Control, Robotics, and Autonomous Systems, 2019
While reducing anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions remains the most essential element of any strategy to manage climate change risk, it is also in principle possible to directly cool the climate by reflecting some sunlight back to space. Such climate engineering approaches include adding aerosols to the stratosphere and marine cloud brightening ...

Engineering Financial Engineering

2014 IEEE Conference on Computational Intelligence for Financial Engineering & Economics (CIFEr), 2014
In order to bridge the gap between theory and practice in the Financial Engineering community it is important that financial models demonstrate sound engineering features of reliability and robustness and apply a repeatable process. A review of 47 journal and conference financial engineering papers from 1990 to 2013 reveals a large gap between theory ...

ENGIN — A new instrument for engineers

Physica B: Condensed Matter, 1997
A new strain scanner has been built at the ISIS facility which has been specially designed for engineering measurements. The instrument uses large radial collimators to define a small measuring gauge volume. Such collimators enable large detector arrays to be employed, thus reducing measuring times.

Engineering Practice and Engineering Ethics

Science, Technology, & Human Values, 2000
Diane Vaughan’s analysis of the causes of the Challenger accident suggests ways to apply science and technology studies to the teaching of engineering ethics. By sensitizing future engineers to the ongoing construction of risk during mundane engineering practice, we can better prepare them to address issues of public health, safety, and welfare before ...
