Development of free neuromasts in Engraulis ringens and Strangomera bentincki (Teleostei, Clupeiformes) early larvae

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Aquatic Research, 2014
Neuromast morphology and distribution are characterized during early ontogeny of anchoveta (Engraulis ringens) and common sardine (Strangomera bentincki).

Identification and Forecast of Potential Fishing Grounds for Anchovy (Engraulis ringens) in Northern Chile Using Neural Networks Modeling

open access: yesFishes, 2022
Engraulis ringens (E. ringens) is a small pelagic fish of which the geographic and bathymetric distribution is conditioned by fluctuations in oceanographic conditions at different time scales (daily, weekly, monthly, annually, supra-annually, and longer)

Variability in oocyte size and batch fecundity in anchoveta (Engraulis ringens, Jenyns 1842) from two spawning areas off the Chilean coast

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2009
Utilising histological preparations of ovaries from Engraulis ringens females collected in two contrasting spawning habitats along the Chilean coast, we assess the variability in oocyte size and batch fecundity during the peak spawning seasons in three ...

Transition period from larva to juvenile in anchoveta Engraulis ringens. Length or age related?

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, 2011
To determine the beginning and end of the transition period from larvae to juveniles in anchoveta Engraulis ringens, seven morphometric measurements were carried out in 333 laboratory-reared and 324 field-caught larvae. Measurements of body morphometrics were employed to calculate the six body ratios selected to show transition changes described in ...

Modeling and analysis of the recruitment of Peruvian anchovy (Engraulis ringens) between 1961 and 2009

open access: yesCiencias Marinas, 2011
The principal objective of this work is to present a new model for the assessment of recruitment of the northern-central stock of Peruvian anchovy (Engraulis ringens), and use it to estimate monthly time series of recruits and pre-recruits between 1961 ...

Effects of the harmful algal bloom toxin, okadaic acid, on the mechanoreceptors of larval anchoveta (Engraulis ringens) under varying environmental conditions

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
The effect of the combination of marine toxins produced by algal blooms, in conjunction with varying environmental characteristics on organisms in the water column, is a poorly explored research field.

Complete Mitochondrial Genome of the Araucanian Herring, Strangomera bentincki, Norman, 1936 (Teleostei: Clupeiformes: Clupeidae): Phylogenetic Analysis and Implications in Fishmeal Traceability. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
Araucanian herring (Strangomera bentincki) is a pelagic fish whose main processed products are fishmeal and oil. The complete mitogenome is 16,758 bp, consisting of 13 coding genes, two rRNAs, 22 tRNAs, and the control region. Phylogenetic analysis supported a monophyletic clade with Sprattus muelleri and Sprattus antipodum.
