In vitro enhancement of aniline metabolism by paraoxon

Paraoxon in concentrations from 2 × 10−5 m to 1 × 10−3 m enhanced the in vitro microsomal metabolism of aniline in livers obtained from rats, mice, rabbits, dogs and man. Enhancement of renal and hepatic glutathione metabolism by dimethylthiourea

Dimethylthiourea (DMTU), a free radical scavenger, was administered to rats to study its effect on renal and hepatic glutathione metabolism, since it is a potential sulfhydryl donor. Six hours following DMTU, renal GSH content was significantly (P < 0.05) increased (10%), and was increased further after 24 h (28%) (P < 0.001).

We examined the effects of isopropanol (ISOP) pretreatment on the metabolism of 14CCl4 to 14CO2 and CHCl3 exhaled in the breath, to 14C metabolite excreted in 24 hr urine and feces from 0 to 24 hr, and to 14C metabolite bound to liver at 24 hr. Fasted male rats were given 0.1 or 2.0 mmoles 14CCl4/kg.
